Let's turn the page.

Visual Novels have arrived on GOG.com! Our first selection includes acclaimed games, revered for their intricate artwork and stimulating stories, up to 66% off until May 29, 1pm UTC.

Higurashi When They Cry Chapters 1-5 (25% off): Spawning a popular anime and manga series, Higurashi is a "sound novel", where meticulously designed audio plays a crucial part in these unique stories. Chapters 1-5 are available today, with Chapter 6 slated for release in the near future.

fault (50% off): Sometimes it takes a healthy dose of pulp sci-fi and a dash of fantasy to weave a powerful cinematic story about the human condition. These two episodes of the ongoing series star the perky princess Selphine and her sarcastic guardian Ritona, as they desperately try to make their way back to their homeland.

Sunrider series (66% off): An alternate universe, intergalactic strife, mech combat, high school, and love all around. Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius (free!), Liberation Day, and Sunrider Academy are a beloved and unique mix of strategy, romance, and visual novel. De-censor patch optional, but come on.

eden* (66% off): Stock up on tissues. This critically-acclaimed love story on a dying planet is a real tear-jerker told with stunning cinematic flair. Humanity is about to be wiped out by a red star but this story is destined to stick around for much longer.

Gilozard: Visual novel fans keep telling me they aren't just excuses for softcore.

This selection is not bearing that out.
...they aren't *ALL* just excuses for softcore.

FTFY

Plenty of them are, there would be no "Sakura" games, or Nekopara titles, if none of them were more than quasi-hentai fantasy trips for waifu hunters.
Gross, Sekai Project is spreading.

Note that I have nothing against VN and porn, it's only a problem with Sekai Project, a disgusting company.

Lucian_Galca: It's a "waifu" overload on gog today. :P

It will be interesting to see how well these do on gog sales wise with the whole Steam and VN thing going on.

Seeing as how we just got a bunch of visual novels/dating sims, I have a request, and that's Dream Daddy. Vote below...

I'm expecting to see a lot of " please add them to Gog Connect " posts for days .

Really nice to see Higurashi here. Don't care about the English VN or those other ones.
Now that visual novels are coming to GOG I hope you get Plumbers Don't Wear Ties on board.

I've never really been a fan of visual novels, but it's good to see that GOG isn't ignoring an entire genre of games for some arbitrary reason anymore. I'm sure this will make plenty of people happy.

I will, however, make an exception to my distaste for VNs for Plumbers Don't Wear Ties.

What a shame. GoG was free of anime porn garbage til now.
I'm not into VNs very much, but I'm ok with them added here. : )
I hope that Gog will select them properly, however!

Higurashi is quite famous (from the screens, it seems to have both old&new artwork? A bit pricey for 28€ tho).
I don't know the rest, instead.
Maybe Fate one day? :P

oh boy.

gog. stumbling from one controversy to the next.

public profiles? check.
taking a week to solve that issue? check. [and then doing the barest minimum while they were there.]
suggestive vn's? check. [after years and years of "curating" them away.]

i like adventure games. and i love stories in my games.
but when the game is basically just an excuse to have suggestive images on screen...
...hard pass.

i know, i know. you're all going to downvote me. that's totally ok.

[added in much later: aayyyyy. i was right. downvote train incoming. lol. you guys are hilariously predictable.]

I bought every single one! :)

Thank you GOG, thank you Sekai Project, and thank you MangaGamer!

I hope to see plenty of other games show up here as well!!

The overall consensus here is that this was a good idea, both because of the Steam/anime/VN drama over censorship and the fact many of us here, including me, have wanted many of these games on GOG, fully DRM-free, together with the rest of our games. These games deserve to be here, and many of them are good for what they are. Games come in many kinds, and that variety has no limits.

I'm glad to see them here, and I hope that they're mostly (all?) uncensored. If not, I'll be patching them shortly on my own! :)

No game should be censored. If we're considered mature and accepting enough to see entrails and heads flying in gory games, I should be able to see uncensored nudity and sexual content with no judgment.

No it wasn't. Hunnie Pop, Lula and to some extent Leisure Suit Larry while not animu it still was animated "porn"

Oh wow, the Higurashi series is now available on GOG. I enjoyed the anime adaptation. I never thought that GOG would ever get any VNs, but I'm on board. These are more "sound novels" or "kinetic novels" because they don't involve any gameplay. It'd be awesome if GOG was somehow able to attain something like G-Senjou no Maou where it does involve some decision-making. The stories in these alone are worth it.
OMG, thank you gog for bringing higurashi here :)
But Umineko is missing :(
After reading the descriptions I'm confused, does "5+ HCGs and many more CGs" mean what I think it does?
I mean I wouldn't complain if you got the Uncut Version but it seems so unlikely.
