A Hard Hard West

Hard West, a brutal Wild West tactical RPG, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for Achievements and a 20% launch discount. Coming soon to Mac and Linux!

The Hard West is a dangerous West, a weird West - a world of supernatural forces clashing with human greed, remains and traces of black pacts haunting the dusty roads and saloons. Hard West is hard. In true spirit of a wild, wild west - it's a game that seems to get satisfaction from making sure you never, ever, feel safe and secure. A bullet is a bullet, and folks aren't made out of sponge. They do, however, have an arsenal of tricks and abilities at their disposal - that, and a healthy dose of luck. Your tactical options will include dynamic, improvised cover, ricochets, and using shadows (not just yours) for every advantage you can get.

Hard West is a game that focuses on offering plenty of depth and unfamiliar twists on your favorite kind of squad-based, tactical gameplay.

You can also grab the full Hard West - Digital Collector's Edition, which includes a Digital Artbook, Original Digital Comic Book, and the Full Original Digital Soundtrack or pick up the Hard West - Collector's Pack with all the content later.

Hard West is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last for one week, until Wednesday, November 25, 4:59 PM GMT.

Hard West is currently compatible exclusively with 64-bit versions of Windows. 32-bit support will be added in the near future.
Strange question.Had a peek at the credits and it lists Backer 1,2,3,4,5. Has a Backers heading and nothing listed underneath? :D

lowyhong: F4LL0UT was involved in this? Cool.
Yup, he came out with it in the the pre-order announcement thread, here.

Vestin: You mean "cel shading"?
avatar
Hickory: I have no idea what method they used, but it doesn't look like cel shading to me. It looks more like some kind of edge detect method. But that may be just my eyes.
That's how cel shading works - somewhat simplified palette and black edge outlines. From Wikipedia:
"First, the scene is rendered (with cel-shading) to a screen-sized color texture (...) Then, the scene's depth and world-space surface normal information are rendered to screen-sized textures (...) A Sobel filter or similar edge-detection filter is applied to the normal/depth textures to generate an edge texture. Texels on detected edges are black, while all other texels are white (...) Finally, the edge texture and the color texture are composited to produce the final rendered image"

hummer010: What exactly does "coming soon to Mac and Linux" mean?

I was under the impression that this was a day one release on all platforms.
I am wondering too when the Mac & Linux versions will be released

Should be today if everything goes according to plan :)
Good luck to reviewer zpierce009 in "changing the stars" when the Mac/Linux versions become available.

Last time I checked, GOG didn't provide any means whatsoever to change a review.

Hickory: Why does it say 20% discount, yet on the game page it says 19%. Get it at GOG for £12.09, get it on Steam (the full 20%) for £11.99? Why?
avatar
trusteft: You are really making this an issue for 10pence? Wow.
Then get it on Steam with the DRM to go. At least you will save 10p! The world is saved!
Every little helps. Save 10p here and 10p there and eventually get another game with your savings. One person's 10p is another persons fortune.

Though the real point to many that I'm conveniently brushing past is just that the discrepancy exists at all which indicates problems that could be far worse in other given situations.

What really matters though is that it is a nice even 20% for me in my Australian currency. At the end of the day what really matters and has meaning is up to you (the individual) :)

Yeah, that seems like a major oversight. Games never get updated after release. I requested a mod delete the review now that the Mac/Linux builds were released. I didn't want to give the game a negative review (so I settled on 3 stars), but thought the store page needed a warning that it wasn't available since they were selling it as.

While GOG indeed does not offer the ability to edit a review (unbelievable), I think it does allow you to change the star rating as often as you wish (but not remove your rating altogether --- I have at least one game (I haven't played) that has my rating on it because I clicked the stars by mistake and could not undo it).
