Some mushrooms are deadlier than others.

ATOM RPG: Post-apocalyptic indie game, a love letter to the classic Fallouts, is now available DRM-free.

After nearly wiping each other out with nuclear bombs in 1986, the Soviet Union and the Western Bloc are scraping by in the wasteland. Now someone is out to finish the job. While scrounging up a living for yourself, engaging in turn-based combat and stat-based gameplay, you will make fateful choices and explore the Soviet wasteland for answers.

tremere110: How is the English translation of this? Is it like say, Space Rangers - understandable yet unnatural?
There are plenty of typos and casing inconsistencies (some annoyingly obvious, like in the crafting recipe names), not to mention the fact that the writers don't seem to know how to adequately use the exclamation mark.

Other than that, the writing is ok, but you can easily tell it's not translated by someone familiar with English RPGs and their writing style.

Why does this look more like Fallout than Fallout 4 does?
Too bad about the translation issues. I'll have to give it a pass for now.
A complete GOG version! Very nice. Was waiting for it here. Will not be able to resist not getting.
In spite of my loss of enthusiasm after hearing a more realistic report about the game, and the fact that it has no launch discount, I guess $15 is low enough to make me get it anyway. I just got into the first town, and some of the (bad) reports seem exaggerated. I still can' t judge too much, though. Things went fairly smoothly throughout the tutorial, at least. Only two noticeable minor English failures, at least.

One thing that I noticed immediately, which wasn't made clear in prior reviews, is that there is no manual whatsoever, except for a keyboard reference (which can be viewed/changed in the prefs, anyway, so it's not worth much). I suppose now I'll have to track down some wiki or something to get an inadequate substitute for a real manual.
A S.T.A.L.K.E.R inspired top-down RPG, for only $15!? Instabuy!

SoMuchATOM: Hey guys! Dev here. If any of you will have any game related questions, bugs to report, or suggestions you would really like us to hear, from now on, please feel free to contact me. It's my first time posting on GOG in this role, so I'm not yet familiar with how the forum works. Hopefully there's a way to address me by name so a notification comes up. If not, no sweat, I'll monitor this comment section as much as I can.

A huge thanks to GOG for inviting us on this amazing platform, basically filled with amazing games that inspired us to work in the industry in the first place!

SoMuchATOM: We heard a lot of stuff about the current translation status - from very good, to so poor you want to poke your eyes out with screwdrivers (not joking, this is an actual Steam review) so I guess it's very personal. One might like it, one might hate it. Some of the game matches your Space Rangers prediction, some of the game is much better.
Thank you for bringing your game to GOG. I had my eye on it on Steam but I didn't want to jump the gun and I'm glad I waited. I will buy a copy as soon as I can! I'm excited.

It's because your notion of how "Fallout" looks is based off classic Fallout.

If, instead, you were to have a notion of "Fallout" based on the modern games (of which Fallout 3 is the first), you would not see ATOM as looking much like Fallout, but then again Fallout 1 wouldn't look much like Fallout under that lens.

There is that one encounter where you just might get a medieval helmet... Apart from that, there is some of the armor that looks like plate armor, but is actually based on WWII Soviet infantry armor! :)
Yes, I was waiting for this one to come to GOG. Nice release. After Pathfinder Kingmaker as RPG of the year last year, this should be runner up.
Thanks for bringing this here, if a bit later than initially hoped. Instabuy, as I promised!
