Matruchus: Hm, I don't know about modding since Steam version has Steamworks support in Transport Fever. Questionable if we can see a lot of mods here.
avatar
Matewis: The wording is Steam Workshop and extensive modding support so I'm not sure. Guess we'll have to wait and see. At least I won't be able to touch the game with my current system so I have an excuse to wait :)
I emailed them about this & got a reply this morning:
Mods can be also downloaded from fan sites or mod databases and installed manually.

Wonderful!
This does look very good. But there have been too many failed attempts to recreate TDD in the past 20 years for me to get my hopes too high. Keeping an eye on it though.
Man, I would love to buy Transport Fever from GoG, but unfortunately I own Train Fever on Steam, so my additional 15% discount isn't working here...
avatar
Matewis: Wow that is quite impressive. That might even be a little more than what base OpenTTD has.
avatar
Matruchus: I would love it if they could later make an expansion with more known vehicles like with the german ICE, french TGV, etc. but that probably needs licensing then.
There are tons of mods for train fever including ICE and TGV - hope there will be an equally active modding community for transport fever. Another good thing was the central hosting of all these mods - hope this steam workshop won't fragment the modding community.

Matruchus: List of all the ingame vehicles (120) through the eras: http://www.transportfever.com/game-info/vehicles/
Therefore wishlisted.

OpenTTD has over 150 vehicles, although some of them share the same visual model(for example Darwin 600 & Airtaxi A33) which doesn't seem to be the case in Transport Fever. Anyway, the game looks beautiful and the ability to set the camera onboard a train (for example) is nice. I hope there won't be vehicles & pedestrians disappearing when zoomed in too much. :)

Reminds me of SimCity 3000 and all those other empty transportation games. It may be just me, but after watching a youtube video of the gameplay I don't think this will be the next big thing in transportation simulation, at least for me. I get the distinct feeling that the game is too sterile and empty, unlike OpenTTD, which still has plenty of "soul" and atmosphere. If that even makes sense...

Besides, the force is through the roof with this one - in terms of pricing.

I enjoyed Train Fever, but it lacked content and ongoing motivation to keep the thing rolling along. Perhaps this will fix it, though given the recent string of high profile preorder derps I'm inclined to wait until launch.
Is this going to be like a modern version of transport tycoon?

It's certainly trying to give that impression.

Sadly, no. TT, TTD, and now OpenTTD had/have something special that most transportation sims don't seem to match.

On the other hand I don't think the devs are directly trying to either. But I would say it's looking a lot better than the previous game.

You mean a really dated and awkward UI? =P As great as it is that the game is still going in some form, the UI could use a facelift.

Thank you gog and Urban games for fixing the discount.

Its now 25% off for owners of Train Fever as it should have been before. Thanks again.
I am thinking Train Fever was a proof of concept and was happy to see that a bonus is being given to us that helped them polish it. Can't wait to see how the new one will play once I can download it in 8 days.
