Most of GOG.com users already know that Planescape: Torment is one of the best games ever created. What's even cooler about it, fans of the game made it even better with lots of mods and enhancements, but it's pretty difficult to figure out what modifications and in which order they should be installed. Thanks to Johnny Walker aka ThunderPeel2001, who originally posted this article a detailed description of the fastest and easiest way to get the best of Planescape: Torment.

Damn good guide. Thank you, will have to make use of it ext time I install Torment. Again.
The guide suggests some common resolutions for the widescreen mode, but none were satisfactory to me. Everything looks too small. The resolution I'm playing with, using the mods, is 1024/600. It doesn't shrink everything too much and it improves on the originial res a lot. For those who feel the high ressolutions suggested make your characters look like ants, it may be a solution. Works fine for me. You'll miss some mod background work on the menus. When you open the journal, for instance, you won't see the artwork implemented by the mods to cover the black space in the background. The background is just black. But that's a very minor nuisance, if it's a nuisance at all. Give it a try folks. If your card does not support the 1024/600 resolution, you can always force it. Definitely worth the trouble.

I would also recommend NOT to install the 'More Morte Mortuary Moments' section - I think it's part of the Unfinished Business mod.

It changes the opening dialogue, and to be quite honest, it's worse than the original. While Morte says a lot more, it's all stuff that he mentions later anyway (in a normal playthrough), and that means you get a lot of repitition. If I remember right, some of the stuff he says makes it seem like Morte's the one with amnesia because he seems to forget stuff that you did moments ago and mentions it again in a different conversation shortly afterwards.
Sweet, looks better and plays better now! Thanks!
News articles like this are why there's nothing better than being a customer of GOG. I'm definitely going to purchase this game in the near future now that I know all these mods are available to make the experience even better.
I installed all these mods, so far they're great with one exception: in the new resolution, sometimes the map doesn't "save"; i.e. there's a visible patch around me and as I move it moves with me and the rest goes black again. Anyone know how to fix this?
Wow, this is great. Thanks so much!

I seem to recall something happening to me like that first time i used the widescreen mod ... i think it can be fixed by just saving, quitting, reloading, but i'm not sure sorry. Your best place to go for problems like this would be Spellhold Studios or Gibberlings 3, the bigg (the author of the widescreen mod) is online often and very knowledgeable, he's helped me with graphical problems in the past. Hope you find a solution.
I still had issues with installing any of the mods after the Ghostdog's UI fix. The fix for me under Windows 7 was to right-click on the .exe and "Run as Administrator".

Just thought I'd pass on that tip.

Thanks Gog.com for posting this guide- it really makes the game much more playable and enjoyable!

Very good idea - need to expand this to all moddable games and link via the game page. External links to the files are great - You Could really push this site with a little time and imagination.
your great job makes me sad
sad about black isle
and good ol'days
EDIT: Problem fixed. Blatant idiotic user error. Original post deleted to avoid apperance of absolute idiocy.

Mukluk13: I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to post this but I've checked the Spellhold forums and couldn't find any answers.

I downloaded the fix pack and moved it over to the PST folder but once it's there, what do i do with it?

Aliasalpha: There should be a file called something like PSTFix.exe, run that and it'll pop up a dos box to let you pick options to install. Same deal with the UI mod and the... other one that I can't immediately remember the name of and will be too lazy to edit this post to correct.

TWEAKS! Thats it, remembered before hitting post.

stumegan: Me too. In fact, I prefer to play the games as they were released..in their good old pristine state.with nobody dinking around with the code ;)..

Aliasalpha: At least these mods only change the aesthetics rather than the game itself, those are the only kind of mods I use
Thanks for the help, I finally got it working but my actual problem was not realizing i had to decompress a .rar file. Oops.
Two questions remain:

1. With Ultimate Fixpack, should we still look for official patches? (that is, assuming there's an official patch that's more advanced than the GOG version of the game)

2. Are the missions on Unfinished Business pack... well... finished? Or is it just a bunch of dead-ends? Isn't there good a reason why they weren't added to the game?

Bonus question: does this guide work on a physical CD version of the game (not the version from GOG) with or without the latest official patch?
