Let's just imagine how these classics would be if they followed modern design... All the parts gutted and removed if released with online-required features (even for single player) as per modern GOG standards.

Plenty of these games have single-player skirmish modes that could be restricted to online-with-Galaxy only.
Tons of them have cosmetics that would be locked away. Or lots of equipable/buildables.
And so on.

A few:
Stronghold -> Only one +happiness and one +fear factor building available, the rest require online activation with your Galaxy account to enable the additional cosmetics.

Majesty -> Virtual multiplayer! Adventurer badges you place are fulfilled by other players! Your own adventurers will still eventually get to them, but other players might complete them sooner! Invite your friends to complete these missions faster! (Yes, Two Point Hospital has this -- and worse! -- in it on the GOG release.)

Sid Meier's Civilization IV -> Must be online to create a random match. Scenarios are still available offline.

---

Newer games are tomorrow's classics. We really do want them to last forever. This is why GOG must stop with the crap of allowing DRM and the like in games here. What happened to what you used to do, hacking them out yourselves? Get to editing that DoW2 GOG release to fix it. And everything else in the list.

And all of that is just single player. Older multiplayer games like JK2/JK3, Quake 3, CS1.6, etc will live on forever because of player-hosted games. Modern centralised multiplayer games will die.

This increasing reliance on "cloud" will end in tears one day.

Anyway, it would be nice to see more classics brought to GOG, such as Drakan: Order Of The Flame or Alone in the Dark (2008).

That's Sony. You have a higher chance of being hit by an asteroid before seeing stuff like former Psygnosis games ever again.

You can safely consider it abandonware.

You saw Clownski's "NOPE!" reply in your other thread, right?

The chances are higher than you think :P : https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20120222-waiting-for-a-rock-to-fall

Especially now with MS encroaching on Sony, they might look into their dormant IP perhaps.

That same NRC report estimates an average of 200 years between such impacts.
Sounds about right. Only 176 years to go. Definitely looking forward to that. Now I only need to figure out how to live to the 23rd century, or just download the game from an abandonware site. Decisions, decisions.....

No, where? In what context? Link pls.

GOG.com: Here are some of the examples of what can you expect:
Konung 1+2 (-80%)

First two reviews:
"Got the infamous black screen after intro cinematic."
"For those with technical difficulties, check the GOG forum for this game. I couldn't find useful help literally anywhere else; I couldn't get the game to play at all until following the advice there."

So I follow the forum link, to find the link is broken and should point to https://www.gog.com/forum/konung instead. GOG, why are such broken games what we can expect in a sale?

Well, unless Sony wants to sit on it forever, like EA with Alice, there's always a possibility it might come. Or that NightDive, or SNEG may acquire it.

Sure, but that doesn't mean I'll stop asking for it. They did not provide a detailed explanation for the "nope". It wouldn't be the only "nope" that was overturned here with enough demand.

Yep. You can say about us GOGers whatever you want but we ARE persistent. We have to be with the slowest support on earth, missing updates (since we are not on Steam and therefore not that important for so many publishers) and years of unresolved support tickets. Never give up never surrender :)

SargonAelther: there's always a possibility it might come.
Sure there is "a possibility," but it's so infinitesimally low that it's not even worth considering. To do so is simply going to give one's self and/or others false hope for something happening that isn't ever actually going to happen in reality, most likely.
A lot of great games in this sale.
