Bugger, I dashed off my last post without re-reading the thing, so I apologise for any vagaries or any errors in spelling, punctuation, etc.

Vitek: You know, I actually read this thread.

I know it is surprising but I have nothing else to do.
You actually read the thread? I'm only here for Krypsyn's Youtube links, and to post my own links, of course (also, NSFW-ish, I guess, not even I have yet watched the whole thing).

Speaking of videos, "Et tu, Krispay?"
avatar
Krypsyn: Not bad for a campy survival horror. I guess.
avatar
Vitek: Decent visuals but story seems lacking so far. Gameplay is so-so but hopefully it will pick itself up.
It gets better when the zombies attack...
avatar
CSPVG: Speaking of videos, "Et tu, Krispay?"
Huk? What are you ta... Oh, dammit, Sun must have been in my eyes!

Unvote: CSPVG
Vote: RWarehall

Sorry about that.
avatar
Krypsyn: Sorry about that.
Your reward, good sir.

Bookwyrm627: but I plan to repeatedly break the expectation of "townies always refer to themselves as part of town".
avatar
JMich: There's such an expectation? Since when?
I don't know how long it has been going on (you've been playing longer than me), but Trent already provided an example of it in this game. Last game, Adalia got jumped on for something similar (I don't remember who did the jumping). I seem to recall it happened in the game before that, and possibly even the game before that.

avatar
flubbucket: I received an early 4th of July present for my job....they are closing our facility.
I'm sorry to hear that. Has everyone been laid off, or is it possible they (and you) can be transferred to another facility?

avatar
flubbucket: Post #138- Bookwyrm "...more than a scum or neutral might exclude themselves (sic) from town..." Whut???

There is scum, neutral, town.....unless you are a mysterious fourth party.
I'm totally not a fourth party. I'm definitely town.

avatar
dedoporno: Wyrm is the more interesting party of the two. It's obvious he has something in the works but I can't measure how deep it is and what the actual plan might be out of the obvious.
O =)

avatar
agentcarr16: Here is the mod's first post in-game, at post #100. I find it suspicious the number of people that have made no positive contributions in the first hundred posts.
I'm not that surprised. A number of people prefer to wait for something to happen instead of participating much in RVS (JMich and Krypsyn jump to mind). Naturally, the more people that do that, the longer RVS tends to drag. Some people (yog, me) try to do something to end it, but what we've chosen so far mostly ends up looking scummy.

avatar
RWarehall: And saying you are not "technically lying" with your statements, doesn't really help, because you aren't being entirely truthful either.
Note: While I am responding to this entire post, I only left the part where I plan to ask a question. I snipped the rest for length.

I think I've said that any reactions to my behavior today aren't indicative in and of themselves. Maybe something will come of it, maybe not. Either way, I think the reactions to my behavior will (eventually) be more useful, gamewise, than reactions to people's butterfly preferences. I want to take the "R" out of "RVS".

The particular flavor of various reactions is simply to be noted. Cristigale seems to be mostly amused, you seem to be confused, yogsloth and trent both think I'm being audacious scum, while Krypsyn and Dedo both seem to be watching to see what happens (with Dedo even encouraging me some), and some other players have had no apparent reaction (skipping those, like Flub, that have much more pressing life concerns). Lacking other data points, every single one of these reactions are valid. In later days, however, something may come up where one of these reactions becomes more telling about a player being town or scum.

If you honestly think I'm scum that has slipped, then you should probably vote for me.

My question for you, RW: What am I not being truthful about?

avatar
agentcarr16: That's standard flavour. Alright, I'll take your word for it, but this is where my inexperience really shows. I can't tell if Vitek is just spouting normal phrases or if he's leaving clues and surprises.
I agree that "destroy threats to town" is pretty standard flavor (using various synonyms for "destroy"). It is some other parts of what Vitek has said that makes me wonder how much deviance we're going to experience. If I remember, I'll try to go into this more tomorrow.

avatar
CSPVG: So, Bookwyrm, would you care to contribute past your 'slips? I see them as little more than you baiting people, and while this can be helpful and interesting, I think you're going about it in such a transparent and silly way that it's not really helpful.

Would you care to perhaps give us a list of the players you find most scummy, or something along those lines? Honestly, you're so far off your usual play style that I am inclined to vote for you, and would were it not for the fact that I feel that this is exactly what you would want. Really, I do find all this WIFOM rather tedious.
I've got plans for this afternoon that involve leaving in about 45 minutes and being out most of the rest of the day. I'll try to provide more "real content" tomorrow. In the meantime, why don't you provide something similar to what you asked for?

avatar
Vitek: You know, I actually read this thread.

I know it is surprising but I have nothing else to do.
Vote counts and mod PM-ing is habit forming?

As stated, I'll probably be gone for most of the rest of the afternoon (EST). I'll be with family, and then maybe I'll go watch some explosions that are set off to commerate the day our country thumbed our collective noses at the mother country.

Bookwyrm627: I'm not that surprised. A number of people prefer to wait for something to happen instead of participating much in RVS (JMich and Krypsyn jump to mind).
Funny, I like RVS. I wouls play the whole game like that, if it were feasible. I feel some folks just take Mafia too darn seriously.

avatar
Bookwyrm627: ...while Krypsyn and Dedo both seem to be watching to see what happens (with Dedo even encouraging me some),
Untrue, at least for me. I would like everyone to vote for RWarehall immediately, so that he may be lynched and we can end this Day. Having to wait to see what happens is awfully tedious.
avatar
Bookwyrm627: I don't know how long it has been going on (you've been playing longer than me), but Trent already provided an example of it in this game. Last game, Adalia got jumped on for something similar (I don't remember who did the jumping). I seem to recall it happened in the game before that, and possibly even the game before that.
Claiming an affiliation is a weird thing. One should always talk as if they are part of town, but one should not refer to themselves as town.

Example 1: "Town needs to lynch correctly or they lose" versus "We need to lynch correctly or we lose"
Example 2: "So far, the cop has investigated me and a townie" versus "So far, the cop has investigated me and another townie".
Example 3: "I am town"

All of the above give slightly different pings to the scumdar, and may be reason enough to check the player a bit more. It is a fine line to walk though, similar to the strategy you mentioned in post 197. You may be able to pull it of, or you may not be.
avatar
JMich: Example 3: "I am town"
Not me, I am a villager. You are a wolf. Totes.
avatar
Krypsyn: Funny, I like RVS. I wouls play the whole game like that, if it were feasible. I feel some folks just take Mafia too darn seriously.
This I agree with, but it seems too many think this is the boring part and "something must be done to move the game along!!"

I'll just open a bar, call it Cheers, and invite everyone in for a drink.

First round is on the house!

RWarehall: Us town, with no information to go on, have nothing to protect.
Sage doesn't much like this line. First. I feel you might be throwing the words us town just to group yourself with town. I dunno something seems off about it. Second, I love my town and I am going to protect it.
avatar
Sage103082: Second, I love my town and I am going to protect it.
Hmm...

For some reason, I am reminded of Hillary Clinton's 1996 DNC speech. I just hope nobody starts the Macarena here... ugh.
avatar
cristigale: I'd ask the same of your vote on yogs.
avatar
Bookwyrm627: I already gave the reasoning that led to my vote on yog. Check my posts, do a little thinking, and it should come to you. You've done remarkably well divining some of my intentions and (attempted) misdirections in the past.
I did check your posts, didn’t see anything that stood out about yogs specifically, so it must be this:
avatar
Bookwyrm627: I'm providing discussion material for our crowd of reactors that doesn't involve roles (definitely not role fishing!) or PMs. And now that I've done that, look at the first person to vote for me based on what I said. … drinks … butterflies … Instead, look at who reacts (and how) to the obviously scummy looking post. And then look at who doesn't react at all.
Which doesn’t make a lot of sense. You already said that was what you did with your early posts, why do it with this vote? If this is the case, players will start ignoring your votes. You’ll need to preface them with “Hey, guys, I really mean it this time…” or some other nonsense. I don’t see how this helps town at all.

avatar
Bookwyrm627: I was "gone" from the game for less than 36 hours; hardly a vanishing act. I could go back and try to figure out what I was doing in RL, but it isn't really relevant and I'm feeling lazy.
To someone who didn’t play in the last game, this might not seem like a big deal, but you were consistently present in the last game. I imagine you missed a day here or there, but it always seemed like you were in the game. So when you don’t post for over 24 hours this early in the game, it does seem atypical. That did stick out to me.

avatar
Bookwyrm627: I plan to look scummy enough that scum will pick someone else to NK, while not quite looking scummy enough to get lynched.
Here’s the problem, looking this scummy this early in the game may be enough to get you lynched. I’ve enjoyed your posts, but I think this may be how you attempt to play scum for the first time. Over-doing it so that players will not possibly think scum would be so bold. The fact the both yogs and trent have voted for you does not bode well either. Two players, who often oppose/antagonize each other, both reaching the same conclusion. And unlike you, their play does seem consistent with earlier games.

On day One, with so little to go on, this is hard to overlook. From my own experience last game, it is fun being scum. If you are scum, I think you’re having a ball with it. But it’s also hard and it could very well be what we’re witnessing in your play thus far, trying too hard to convince us that only town would act so scummy. So while I am amused by your play, I find your play suspicious. I’m not sure if this is a big town act or a big scum act.
avatar
CSPVG: and to post my own links, of course (also, NSFW-ish, I guess, not even I have yet watched the whole thing).
Im not sure if I want to cry to laugh..
I have been watching this for a half hour now. Because of you there will be no deviled eggs.. Alright there might be. I just need to get up and cook them.

And what am I supposed to say? "The town" and get jumped on as scum for saying it in third person. If this is the sort of thing that makes you think people are scum, you really need to seriously re-examine what you consider scummy.

Another perfect example of how people in this game jump on stupid little meaningless things and give lurkers a free pass...

And for the record, I love this town too. I proclaim this often and publicly. In fact, I think people should visit the big city as little as possible because its a corrupting influence, it's fine right here.

Strange, you bring that up but say nothing about Krypsen vote hopping without a real explanation, or any of the other poor statements made elsewhere. It's this sort of "selectivity" I'm looking for as a scum tell. Now to figure out which of these others are your scum buddies...
