Definitely interested in trying this, though I think they already had the perfect setting for this kind of game : steampunk 1800s type vibe. Not sure this will work in space. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

adaliabooks: I don't see why this is an issue... you can say skies.

I'm not sure if it's an old fashioned term but you can definitely say 'cloudy skies' or 'sunny skies'.

As for why it's different pluralisation between games, there is only one sea in the first, I presume the skies of the second game are vaster and more deserving of the plural.

Besides, if you really want to nit pick the game is set in space anyway not the sky at all.
Yep, same in french: le ciel, les cieux, it has the same meaning. Anyway, in the trailer, we can see a lot of different setting in the skies. I can't understand why some people here stop at this...

And it's the opportunity for me to try Sunless Sea and Zubmariner, that's cool.
If I buy Zubmariner DLC from here, will it work with Humble Bundles DRM-free version of Sunless Sea?

drealmer7: Tell me why it is "SKIES" and not 'SKY", please?!

Sunless SEA (even though it can be argued that there are multiple seas because of geography and distance)
Sunless SKY (because you know, it's one giant sky up there regardless of how you partition it)

nonsense
I would imagine because it has a more literary-ish sound, skies are frequently plural when written about. Like in flat country like Saskatchewan they talk about 'endless skies', or how one travels the skies. Kind of like how they talk about 'heavens' when talking about the big space up there (Billy looked up to the heavens), but 'Heaven' the place is always singular.

Why is it like this? I have no idea. Kind of like how 'sea' can be used singular when talking about travelling (Billy went by sea on his way to find the Northwest Passage).

Still does seem odd though, even as a native speaker I don't really English great.'

Actually, ignore all this blather, it's probably just because No Man's Sky came out and they were trying to avoid having a similar name.

I wouldn't imagine so, it uses the registry to see if the game is installed and where it is installed. On a Humble version you would probably have just extracted it from an archive and it wouldn't have those keys set. If you can get the files out of the installer, you probably could install it just fine though.

Regardless of the registry issue, you need to own the base game on GOG so there is no way for you to buy the DLC alone.

You have a very good point there. I completely forgot about that aspect.

The heavens are divided into multiple regions - each one a kingdom to a particular Judgement (a star whose light enforces the laws of the universe). It's called Sunless because the Judgements are dying and the empire is taking over the now empty kingdoms left behind. It's called Skies because each kingdom is a separate sky and telling a Judgement that it's all just one big sky would likely ensure a very bad day.

I'm fairly certain you can't buy the DLC without owning the game. Well, you can purchase it -as a gift- but you can't redeem it to an account that does not also have the base game.

But that doesn't answer the question you stated. I don't actually know.

I was just about to answer that they just wanted to have as many s'es in the title as possible (without being completely annoying and just repeating the letter) and that "Sea" should really have been "Seas".

No.

drealmer7 is going to name his baby Chad. After his wife has gone through months of sickness, insomnia, exhaustion, veins swollen with poisoned blood, and hours of pain in the end, as she's finally hugging the newborn, he's going to proclaim,
I have birthed a baby, and I'm going to name it Chad.

Dear Failbetter,
I would like to extend apologies on behalf of the community. I will do my d__nedest to test Skies.

Actually, Alexis Kennedy (who is not with Failbetter anymore) has just 2 days ago explained why this change happened. Apparently they didn't want to go the same way that Microsoft and No Man's Sky developer have gone, battling protracted legal battle against Sky Networks who owns the word "Sky". We leave in a sick, sick world.

I see the problem in the DRM-freeness because there are high frequent updates in this game. In Sunless Sea it was the same case. GOG wasn't able to update the standalone installers that fast as the updates/additional stories were released. Therefore GOG relied on the integrated auto updater in the game. Now the updates for sunless sea don't come out so fast anymore but when I install the game with the standalone installer and start it, it still wants to download some updates. So, you can't rely on that, that your installers are up to date. You need a internet connection and run the auto updater.
It's the same case with AI War Fleet Command. You have to be connected to the Internet and run the autoupdater for getting the latest version. You don't get it out of the box from the standalone installers.
