The violence of history.

RIOT - Civil Unrest is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% discount until December 13, 3PM UTC.
The city is about to erupt. All it takes is a single act of aggression, and this kettle of boiling emotions could overflow at any moment. Take the side of the protesters or the police and experience the chaotic riots that shook major cities all over the world, either through a full campaign or single scenarios. Then get involved providing feedback and useful suggestions, to help the developers fine-tune the game during its In Development period.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

Watch the trailer.

MajicMan: Wow, this game is still not out? I thought it died. I read an interview with the developer Leonard Menchiari years ago, who decided to make this game based on his experience during a No TAV terrorist attack.

So No TAV is a group of morons who are opposed to a high-speed rail train that was approved by both the government and a public vote on the development.

Of course, being a bunch of leftist, they decided after losing a fair election the best course of action was domestic terrorism and so they go out and actually sabotage the tracks and construction equipment.

During one of these "protests" (actually domestic terrorism) these morons were tossing Molotov cocktails (notice the logo for the game?) and destroying private property and causing millions of dollars in property damage to government property also (thus costing tax payers large sums of money). The police decided to put an end to the terrorism, and it was during this time that Menchiari was beaten (although not nearly hard enough or often enough as no brains were knocked into him) and thus decided to make a game about his "experience" in "Civil Unrest" aka Domestic Terrorism.

Now, I am all for Freedom of Speech and do not want this game to be kicked off GOG, but how is a game about Terrorism in which players are encouraged, and, in fact, the purpose of the player and the game is to destroy public property, private property and attack the police with weapons - including Molotov cocktails - allowed on GOG, but Hatred was banned and had the entire Snowflake Brigade up in arms creating a wishlist post demanding GOG bar Hatred?
I don't pretend to know much, if anything about this game, but I do know a lot about protesting, which is generally lawful, and rioting, which is generally not.

When I was 18 I was going to change the world through my voting. When I was 21 I was going to change the world through my music. When I was 27 I was going to change the world through my writing. When I was 35 I wasn't going to change the world anymore. I appreciate the concept, but I feel it's in poor taste and I am skipping it.

You can Control the police as well so woudnt really say it promotes terrorism or civil unrest. Its more of a simulator that simulates either side during a riot but extremly basic on what it simulates. At least thats what i understand the dev have in mind when reading an article about it some time ago. Of course the gameplay may be just as you described With one side beeing to powerfull wich in a way coud be seen as promoting something one way or the other.
They should make a DLC where you crash a truck on civilians.
Seriously though, when playing as the rioters, do you get the option to burn down a bank full of people and perhaps even have some of them die?

Yes I am not crazy about the theme of this game, obviously I am not going to buy it.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that this will be a future addition to the "gog customers are second class citizens"-list. The dev didn't even show up to say hi in the release thread and the game's subforum has a grand total of zero topics (excluding Judas' FAQ). Just to compare: the game's Steam forum has over 150 threads opened in the past 24 hours alone.
Definite interest. Call me when it is actually fully released.

Hatred was not banned, it was reject - as gOg does with 99% of games submitted to them. While the reason why it was rejected is not disclosed, it is probably due to the game being buggy and frankly very monotonous and boring. It still is buggy, to the point of game breaking bugs still existing. The grey on grey visuals and very repetitive gameplay makes it seem more boring than it is (driving is horrendous...) There is an interesting and possibly useful engine with its deformation and such, it is just very badly implemented.

This has nothing to do with the contents of the game, nor any wishlist entries.

What public vote? Administrations usually don't gauge public opinion for major infrastructure projects such as TAV and I don't remember any referendum being held in the past few years.

Just FYI, and this obviously at you amok, but I have Hatred, and I have played it.

I've had more fun watching paint dry. :P

If the subject matter had been anything else, but just as boring, everyone screaming censorship would have been now screaming, "Get that boring indie crap out of here! Doesn't GOG have any standards!?" :P

aye, I got about 3 hours playtime on it and gave up, and that was just to make sure I did not miss anything... but it started getting repetitive after 15 min.

If you want a game like this then get Postal, which is here on gOg, or for senseless but satisfactory top down mass murder there is alien and zombie shooter games. all do that thing much better then Hatred.

Postal is also silly, which I admit is a fine line, but it's there.

When the Postal guy starts screaming "O.J.!" you know the entire thing is done with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
i preordered this game for 20$ on may 2013 directly on the game's official website. Prior to this purchase, i clearly contacted the devs through the website's contact form to inquire about availability of the game as a DRM-Free release.

The answer i got was that people purchasing the "desktop" (?!) version of the game through preordering it on the website would get a DRM free build.

Later devs also stated that people who bought it for 20$ would have access to closed beta.

last year i inquired about the game because they already created a storepage on steam for it and yet i saw nothing coming and got no news in muy mailbox. The only answer i received was addvertising for another game's release, on PS4, from the same publisher ! (just... what ?)

Game was launched in early access on steam yesterday, for 10 bucks... Yet indiegogo backers and preordering customers (both for 20$, shall i remind) had to wait today to get the game (so, basically, after any regular day one buyers), but... only as steam key ! No DRM build was mentionned to people like me by mails or on our other store's account.

Now i see this gameis available through here ? i really would like some devs or some official spokeperson come here and tell me what the hell is happening, frankly. Because it's clear you are selling DRM free builds, but not for people who preordered the game 4 years ago for twice it's price despite the fact you confirmed about the supplying of a DRM Freee build to them.

Frankly, i think my only resort would be to request a refund and maybe (and i say maybe) i could consider buy it anyway, but on GOG at least, because i prefer to deal with GOG's customer support than the contradictory or irrelevant and/or innefficient "communication" i had, or even didnt have at all, so far, from those folks !

Sorry, i may feel angry and pesky and whatever, but this year i already got screwed up by false advertising and customer-cheating "gloomywood" devs from game "2Dark" and i'm a bit fec up with people claiming whatever people want to hear whenever you go through the active task of contacting them, only to completely do nothing or the opposite of what they confirm on written form. It's clearly poor communication at best, scamming and false advertising and consumer cheating, at worst. And i have a limited threshold of how many moves like that i can "indulge" on one single year !

PS: in a further mail exchange last year, one official who answered me told me to be reassured and that people in my case would rather get 2 keys with one to spare with a friend... 1st) it was not adressing the whole DRM-free issue/question, and 2) it was of course words in the wind mostly, as i clearly didnt get this solution activated at all :)

Hmm, I did a full let's play of Hatred some time ago.

I found it beautiful and solid game. I don't remember encountering any bugs. If I did any, I either didn't notice it or I forgot about it.

well, when I played it it crashed 3 times on me, and there was a bug in the police stating when it did not register that all policemen had been killed, making it impossible to progress. As far as I know, the game is still unstable on some systems, and the bug I mentioned has not been fixed so you can get into that situation

For the aesthetics? it was intereting for 5 min, but then the grey on grey started to grate on me. Spot color was nicely implemented, but it was at times difficult see what was what due to color scheme
