The violence of history.

RIOT - Civil Unrest is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% discount until December 13, 3PM UTC.
The city is about to erupt. All it takes is a single act of aggression, and this kettle of boiling emotions could overflow at any moment. Take the side of the protesters or the police and experience the chaotic riots that shook major cities all over the world, either through a full campaign or single scenarios. Then get involved providing feedback and useful suggestions, to help the developers fine-tune the game during its In Development period.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

Watch the trailer.

I really, REALLY do not like this one and how it seems done in such a poorly taste and ignorance.

:/

justanoldgamer: My first thought was "what kind of sociopaths want to play a game about riots?"
Then I remembered that I like games about war, theft, murders, etc... So it's quite arbitrary of me to draw the line at riots.

In conclusion, I hope it does well.
You must always look who is "up" and who is "down" to draw comparisons. Meaning, you have to understand the mechanisms of powers: who is defenceless and who is powerful.

nightcraw1er.488: The graphics on that look fugly. I mean I have seen better graphics on spectrum games. It may be the best game ever made, but I can't stop my eyes bleeding.

amok: I guess that's where people differ. As stills it might not do much, but I think it is absolutely gorgeous in motion.
The stills and the minimal hud on them look ok, but the larger interface screens are definitely made to make eyes bleed.

bad
also bad
ok but ugly
Protestors and rioters are people doing very different things. Riots are not wars. An RTS called RIOT Civil Unrest muddies all those waters to no good purpose.

It also doesn’t make sense as a game. Rioters are no match whatsoever for cop paramilitaries which is what they would face. So it’s a version of the old nasty “both sides” scam just done with bad graphics.

A game where the *only* point is for citizens and cops to clash in pseudo-realistic circumstances would be creepy anytime. Today it’s unbelievable. Unbelievable that someone would make it or distribute it.

Gog hasn’t taken on a topless Russian silent partner by any chance has it? 
Really Makes Me Think
According to the FAQ the dev wants "the community to get involved. The plan is to update regularly and post on the game's community page on a regular basis."

It would be cool if the dev popped up in this thread, if only to confirm that he intends to regularly interact with gog users as well. (Would probably also help sales along...)
So this is basically an a-hole simulator?

And there is nothing wrong with civil unrest. Sometimes it can be very healthy. I just don't know if I want to play a game about it. :P

Of course! Yet, the civil urest I've seen in recent time has been basically about a-holes looking for a way to let the steam off or manipulated zombo kids thinking they know what they are protesting against or for. I'm talking about Western worlds mainly, and surely, there have been justified protests as well. However, the trailer made me think of duckheads, especially the fragment with the molotov thrown into a police car. Argh!

Let's not get too serious here. Let's talk about something fun. Like kittens!
Ok, so how many protesters does it take to shave a kitten?
Molotov kitten tossed into police car!
Wow, this game is still not out? I thought it died. I read an interview with the developer Leonard Menchiari years ago, who decided to make this game based on his experience during a No TAV terrorist attack.

So No TAV is a group of morons who are opposed to a high-speed rail train that was approved by both the government and a public vote on the development.

Of course, being a bunch of leftist, they decided after losing a fair election the best course of action was domestic terrorism and so they go out and actually sabotage the tracks and construction equipment.

During one of these "protests" (actually domestic terrorism) these morons were tossing Molotov cocktails (notice the logo for the game?) and destroying private property and causing millions of dollars in property damage to government property also (thus costing tax payers large sums of money). The police decided to put an end to the terrorism, and it was during this time that Menchiari was beaten (although not nearly hard enough or often enough as no brains were knocked into him) and thus decided to make a game about his "experience" in "Civil Unrest" aka Domestic Terrorism.

Now, I am all for Freedom of Speech and do not want this game to be kicked off GOG, but how is a game about Terrorism in which players are encouraged, and, in fact, the purpose of the player and the game is to destroy public property, private property and attack the police with weapons - including Molotov cocktails - allowed on GOG, but Hatred was banned and had the entire Snowflake Brigade up in arms creating a wishlist post demanding GOG bar Hatred?
