...Ummm, but someone already did this, and called it Empyrion...
FYI: Performance is abysmal on Linux on anything but minimum settings. I really hope they'll switch to Unity 5.6 and Vulkan renderer.

AlienMind: Bought. Gotta support this. GOG needs more games like Subnautica/DayZ-Epoch/...
Hope it turns out well.
Have you already played it? :)

Can you say how character customization is? Can you name the character or does he/she gets the account name? Can freely switched between 3rd person view and first person view?
No mans sky 2.0?

Hope not.
Hi guys, good to see you interested!

Unity updates now that the launch is finally out is definitely on the roadmap.

Character customization is not yet in, but planned. and there is 1st person and 3rd person view already.

Thanks for chiming in! :)

Great to know that both is in. Prefer TPS; but on occasion an FPS view has its benefits (Sniping; reading signs/posters; oggling a shopkeeps gracious cleavage [probably not in this game though ;) ]).

Looking forward to what ppl can tell about customization (and character naming) when its in.

Why are you asking people to pay to beta test your game ?

The_Gypsy: The idea of paying developers to do QA for them, instead of the other way around, doesn't sit too well with some people. I can't say I disagree with them.
Live and let live. I can fully understand YOU or anyone not wanting to do free work. That is why there is large "in development" tag on the game page. But banning them from ever apearing to anyone until their product is polished is going too far.

I usually stay away from in-dev myself. But the few I did try turned out to be good. Most were perfectly playable without bugs, only missing features. I enjoyed the hell out of trying to diagnose "stuttering sound followed by game freeze" in Solus project. Maybe even more than a full playthrough when it was released. If it felt like work, I'd just stop poking at it and let someone else deal with it, as long as it gets released I can wait, it's not like I have backlog shortage or anything.

Shouldn't it be FPV and TPV in this case? It doesn't seem like there is too much shooting (and we still can get to oggle our characters' gracious cleavage in TPV, even without shopkeepers).

Thanks! That would be great, since currently with AMD and Mesa OpenGL, the game has bad performance (1fps on max settings with RX 480). Hopefully Vulkan will help it.

I'm aware that all I can really do is never support it. That doesn't mean I, or others, have to like it or say nothing.

Tried it briefly, but requested a refund because the low default FOV and inability to increase it make it unplayable for me. There were other issues, but I would have liked to give the game more of a chance than I was able to.

That's how early access (EA) works. It's not like some "finished" games that should better be labeled beta because of the amount of bugs or missing features. In EA, players know that the game isn't finished, so it's their informed choice to support a promising game in its development phase and in turn take part in the process.

Do you have issues with this quid pro quo approach? If so, which ones and why exactly?

Probably; never read it that way though which is why I used the other term. And not much shooting (or at least the option to not much shooting) is indeed VERY welcome!

Unless customization allows a space suit similar to this I doubt there is much ogling anywhere ;)

This is generally where I sit on the issue as well: label it and let the consumers decide. If I put on my engineer hat then yes, paying for QA work is kind of lame but it is not lost on me that the front-loaded revenue model of EA and crowdfunding is what dragged this industry kicking and screaming out of the mid 2000s doldrums where playable games were limited to big studios whose corporate MBA overlords only cared about lame MMOs and pandering to the console bros.

Personally, I'll sometimes get an in-dev game if it's really appealing and does something original. This one looks like an NMS clone, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, so I'll wait until it's a little farther along to make a decision.
