NoNewTaleToTell: Obligatory mention of Sleeping Dogs, if you haven't played it then get on that! Fantastic story, gorgeous graphics (even the "old" version) the ability to parkour around, and Batman: Arkham style combat.

The city itself has plenty of things to do, tons of races to take part in, fight clubs, the ability to buy cars/motorcycles, plenty of clothing stores selling a range of clothing styles, the ability to buy food from street vendors, clubs to find and sing karaoke in, and random events like chasing down purse thieves or escorting a drunk away from a store, just to name a few activities.

I know some people were disappointed by the lack of gunplay (it's there, but fairly rare) but the hand to hand combat is absolutely fun and has a lot of depth, and there is just something amazing about being able to lock a enemy into the trunk of a car. I actually did that the other day, free roamed for a while, found three thugs hanging out in a parking lot, so I shoved each of them into a car trunk.
Is the game in an "Island City"?

Or is it a big land with a City aswell as rural/countryside areas?

Because games like Saints Row and GTA 4 is just cities surrounded by water. It takes away the immersion like do these people realize they are trapped in the middle of no where?

Flying high in a helicopter in GTA 4 and seeing all of Libery City is basically surrounded by water just feels weird.

darthspudius: That is some awesome detail, though the facial expressions are creepy. I would of loved to of seen this used in GTA V.
I don't find it creepy at all.

I watched Jim Carrey's A Christmas Carol and I thought it looked increadible:

Sleeping dogs is three cities joined by motorways. It does kind of fade off into the sea but you don't really notice as it is very involved in the city.

It's set in Hong Kong, so it's presented as an island. It's not a huge map but at the same time, it's as big as it needs to be, if that makes any sense? There isn't really any filler and nearly every inch of the map is used for something. On pure size I'm guesstimating that it's a bit bigger than the size of Saints Row's Steelport (the setting of The Third/IV), but that could be because the scale of everything is much better in Sleeping Dogs.

Alot of games have facial technology these days with realistic looking humans (I believe Mass Effect was the first to show off realistic human models) but this game and Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls push it to the most realistic limit.

Really underrated aswell and where every choice can result in multiple endings. I blame Jim Sterling for people bashing on the game and Quantimic Dream in general.

I second that, Sleeping Dogs is a really great game that deserves more love. I really enjoyed the mixed martial arts combat and the driving is much better then any previous GTA games. Also the atmosphere and the setting is a lot of fun, thats why I am disappointed that there still isn't a sequel in the works and instead we're getting an MMO in the same universe with Triad Wars.

Yeah I'm disappointed by the lack of an actual sequel too, hopefully Triad Wars (or the Definitive Edition of Sleeping Dogs) is successful enough to convince them to create an actual followup to Sleeping Dogs.

Yeah I hope so too that a lot of people bought the definitive edition on consoles because that is what a potential franchise usually hinges on. Also agree that Triad Wars doing well could potentially help in eventually getting a new gen sequel for the game, although Sleeping Dogs still looks really good on PC with the current engine. :)

At least the game looks like they tried to put an effort. Games like this makes me question the idea of indie gaming saving the gaming industry:
