Elmofongo: I don't know what you are smoking if you say the controls of San Andreas are inferior compared to 3/Vice City.

...Unless you have been playing the PC. Because you don't know pain unless you played the PS2 version of 3 and Vice City with a Controller. San Andreas was a Godsend for PS2/Xbox in terms of controls.

Oh and you can swim in San Andreas. Vice City has boat missions. And this is the same game where your character drowns and dies in water.

Rockstar just needs to make the next GTA in Vice City. Please Rockstar either the 1980s or current times. I want to see babes on the beach.

NoNewTaleToTell: I played GTA 3 and Vice City on Ps2 using the standard Ps2 controller and never had an issue. I also played GTA 3 and Vice City on the original Xbox using the standard Xbox controller and again, had zero issues. San Andreas obviously made some improvements but I wouldn't say that the controls are among them, on foot controls are pretty similar to 3/Vice City (very slightly tuned up), cars are much more prone to spinning and manual aiming is awkward.

Gaining the ability to swim is obviously an improvement but (at least for me) water was never an issue in 3/Vice City, even in the boat missions. In GTA 3/Vice City I never had to stop what I was doing to go hunt a restaurant or a gym because the game decided halfway through a mission that CJ was starving to death and took half his muscles in the time it took to finish a mission.

In the end I'll have to agree that all three aged fairly rough but are more than playable.
The problem I have with gta 3 and vice city is lack of camara controls. I am used to the right stick moving th camara that was introduced in San Andreas. And of course the much better gunplay and melee in SA.

IMO, nothing beats the atmosphere of Vice City. It is my favourite because of that. And even if I like the setting in SA less, in terms of gameplay, it is a masterpiece. Love the map, love the distinct zones, the planes...

Shame on you, you made me reinstall both of these! >.<
No shame in that, i myself reinstalled the trilogy box (3, vice city and san andreas)! Hey, since you installed them, try putting for custom music, especially in San Andreas, the soundtrack of GTA 1! It has all these, rap, funk, rock, country, etc! Plus, the niggaz rapping in 1 fits like a glove, in San Andreas radio! Or the opera in GTA 3 (double cleff FM), which was hilarious (but nice to listen at, also)!

For me, GTA 4 was a horrifying disaster, the worst they could have possibly done in the entire series... I hope GTA 5 is half as good as the original. Will test it out soon...

darthspudius: I hate San Andreas with a passion. Horrific characters, very bad VERY bad control scheme (that should of improved by the time it was released), extremely ugly to look at and the dialogue sweet mother... I felt my IQ drop playing this game.
I understand. I myself hate 4 with a passion. Speak about VERY bad control scheme... Let's all hope 5 satisfies everyone, nigga!

stg83: I guess it will be same as their last game on PC Max Payne 3 which can be played offline without any issues. Rockstar Social Club DRM is not a hindrance in that regard.

https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200152586-Requiring-Internet-connection-to-play-Max-Payne-3-on-PC
That'd be all well and good if I could actually get to the point where MP3 let me authenticate the game, but, no! Fucking Rockstar's Social Club bullshit just refuses to properly connect to do so. Good thing I only wasted a fiver on that, but it still irks me. I should have done my research as that seems to have been a common problem for some time now. Fortunately, that "feature" could be safely ignored in LA Noire.

So, yeah, fuck R*'s horseshit excuse for DRM. That alone basically kills any interest that I might have had in GTAV. Fuck me, eh? Yeah, fuck you, too!
I won't be getting it as I already have it on PS3, but I gotta say, I hope they handle the port better than they did with GTA IV. God, what a trainwreck that was. Social Club, networking compatibility, Steam install, no Steam install, firewalls, magic potions, treasure maps, zero theorems, eating disorders, giant sea monsters, etc etc. You name it, they fucked it up. Fecking rediculous.

t0nedude: IMHO the series peaked at Vice City or maybe San Andreas and hasn't hit those highs since...

I think GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas each have their own strengths. Vice City has this awesome, awesome, AWESOME atmosphere and look (I LOVE this game for the Miami Vice feel), San Andreas has its huge and diverse world with so many little secrets and stuff to do and GTA III... Well... GTA III has some very unique gameplay mechanics, allowing you to do things a bit... unusual ;)

Vice City and San Andreas started to use scripted scenes more heavily than GTA III. You couldn't "prepare" a mission event before you trigger it anymore. In GTA III you had some "creative freedom". You could jump out of a fast driving, soon-to-explode car, sending it into a couple of cars and enemies who would start to chase you as soon as you pass a certain point. You had the possibility to blow them up before they even knew that they have to shoot at you. You could block roads with heavy vehicles before you trigger an event, to get a headstart (if you know that there'll come enemies out of this street after triggering said event). You could park a heavily damaged car in front of a door where some enemies will spawn, so that you could blow it up with two or three more shots. This kind of freedom was gone after GTA III and that's what makes this game something unique.

darthspudius: and vice city... but all three have aged too badly for me to care.

I'm generally referring to all three of them. Very bad.

That happened to me too, I think I had to bypass the whole Rockstar Social Club to get it to work, one of the hardest games I've ever tried to get working. Luckily it was super awesome so it was worth it.

So you would actually say GTA 4+Expansions have aged well?

I still think Niko Bellic GTA 4 is a good game.

GTA 5 will be blow you away gameplaywise. The game world is HUGE. Roughly as big as WOW's Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms.

They brought back whacky missions again. Not Saints Row level but more Vice City/San Andreas level.

I am not a fan of the Social Club DRM either but I have never had any problems with it to be honest. I even played a lot of multiplayer and never had any issues connecting to a server. Also they have been constantly updating Rockstar Social Club in preparation of GTA V so I would advise to give it another try now and see if you can authenticate MP3, because IMO the game is definitely worth it.

Gta 4 was a big improvement. Though some of the controls weren't as good as they were in GTA V (played it on xbox). I quite enjoyed the story for the most part, some very good characters and a big step up from that primitive Gangsta crap. My biggest gripe was the piss poor save system, no check point system at all. Very frustrating and on thing I have always hated about GTA.

GTA V was a HUGE improvement. Great controls, excellent characters except stereo typical Franklin who I could do without. Some great wacky missions, the train hijack or the minigun level was hilarious. I can't wait to play it on PC.
Considering all this talk about GTA V's DRM details (I'm or was interested in it too), one question comes to my mind:

Why don't Rockstar have a mr Rambourg or a mr Iwinski in their team? The gaming world would be much happier...

So I take you dislike the African Street Gangsta background for San Andreas. Even though the later half of the game progressed beyond that theme. (A Gangsta inflitrated and stole a experimental jet pack from Area 51 and succeeded.) I bet you did not watch Training Days that was great movie.

And leave poor Franklin alone at least he's the most normal of the 3. Trevor is a Psychopath and Michael has the issues.

African Street Gangsta? Good god that crap has a name?! I always thought it was the De-Evolution of the human race. I have nothing against different cultures but that wasn't even cultured.

Playing Franklin was as fun as licking sand paper.

They can think that if they like, I'd say the same for my fellow country men/woman. We're really going backwards in Scotland lol.

Edit: That means I do not intend to offend... >_<
