Carradice: Meaning that on paper it seems to be a good general policy, but surely there might be exceptions in specific circumstances?

Also, sometimes it might not be easy to agree on who is lying.

And right now there is chaff galore, and very little substance to reflect upon (although little does not equal nothing).
I think an RVS joke is probably just such an exception. I'm willing to give agent a pass for that for now, but obviously it might count against him down the line.
avatar
GameRager: And I think the principle is crap.....there are and can be times when lying as town(like hiding PRs) can benefit town, and as such I think your hardline "lynch all liars" stance is either an indicator you might be scum or(more likely) is you being town and having a stance that is itself a liability(i.e. it could get innocent town lynched).
100% this.

Townies that lie like the plague (and there are many on Mafia Universe) doom the town to defeat. I hate it so much... so much... flames... flames, from the side of my face...

But making a dumb joke doesn't count as being a "liar" and certainly lynching someone as policy for such a thing is... silly and counter-productive. That's just turning your brain off and not even trying.

Which, granted, is FAR more likely to come from a scum perspective if they think they can bag an easy lynch that way.

*However* from my experiences with Lift he's a pretty literal player, so in his particular case, I think he's just as likely (at least) to be Town from it.

Wokka wokka wokka!

I think Lift is probably town from a few other things though, including having an early wagon run on him that wasn't really put together from much substance and just... vibey wibey kinda stuff, but ya know, whatevs, it's not my strongest read ever.

So you are leaving the door open to come back later and say he's scummy because of what he said, but at the moment he gets a pass it. Sounds legit....

Also, what's this? No we haven't.

ZFR: 11. You may post your Name (and House)
Or, you know, lie about it, because lying is never against the rules.

Little do you all know I'm actually in Hufflepuff, where our house motto is "We aren't a threat!" and our only objective is not to die namelessly in the final battle.
avatar
GameRager: Some users likely outed themselves as town(they weren't warned/replaced for "announcing their houses"[agent and yog, I mean]) and others are now pouncing on them for it and making their votes "super serious"...likely to try and get some town lynched.
I'm not convinced this is town-outing. Their joke claims are AI at best...and also AI at worst. I believe claiming they got cleared Town based on these claims is just as ridiculous as claiming they got outed as scum on these claims. Did I get a free pass because I said I was a watcher of Kalunga and not Slytherin? For all you know, Kalunga could be a house ZFR put in for the laughs. He didn't say the game was going to be 100% accurate to Harry Potter lore.

avatar
Lifthrasil: Also, there are only two possibilities: either they are who they says they are. Then they are scum. Or they aren't who they say they are. Then they are liars... and therefore scum. Town don't lie. So with lynching agent we either remove scum or at least a liability to town, because a lying Townie is a liability. Therefore I am willing to lynch agent on a matter of principle. The principle being: Lynch All Liars. It is a principle that serves Town well.

I see the case a bit stronger on agent than on yogs, because agent started it. Yogs just saw a stupid idea and compulsively went along. He is that way. He can't resist a stupid idea. And yes, if someone is town, lying is a stupid idea.
That's rich coming from you, Lift. You're framing their joke claims as something they would only do if they're scum. And right after that frame, using the Lynch All Liars mantra in hopes of getting them lynched? And I have a feeling that if we let you make it to near endgame, you're willing to break from Lynch All Liars if it fits your agenda, right? Just like in the Supernatural game. You let dedoporno and RWarehall lie that game with little recourse (even worse in the former since he was actually Town and had to modify his claim, while the latter left the door open for addenda on his claim). You're giving me the impression you're not trying to hide your Kitsune fangs and they're showing way too early.

I'll steal from your playbook for a bit. Do you KNOW something we don't?

It's like yogs said. You're turning your brain off and just going on autopilot mode. Except I'm not convinced this is Town Lift's autopilot.
I find the "lynch all liars" affair a weird battle to pick. Everybody has moved on from the initial joke except Lifthrasil. Even to classify it as a lie is a bit of a stretch.

Carradice: In any case, @yogsloth probably has it right: it may be interesting to consider Headmaster Dumbledore's speech carefully. Someone from a third House might be present, and not interested in allowing Gryffindor nor Slytherin to win.
According to Dumbledore's speech, it's not Gryffindor vs Slytherine, it's all three other Houses combined against Slytherine. So if there's a neutral, they will probably have a different flavor.

Sorry, Dumbledore assured me this spell will work. I'll have to talk to him.

In the meantime, I'll just do it manually

As was pointed out already, no, they haven't. Could be a yoke, could be a lie, could be true.

From ZFR's post, I take it all 4 houses play and only Slytherin is the "bad apple" (as to be expected in this setup).
So another faction (if there is any) might not be related to the Houses or might be mingled among them (and then maybe except for Gryffindor because that's how special they are?).

Agreed (about 3 against Slystherin). Different flavour? You mean like that Ministry for example?

This is also possible.....though Lift's sticking to the "lynch all liars" stance gives me a bit of pause, so i'll keep my vote where it is for now.

The whole "soft clear" thing was based on me mis-remembering part of the rules, as I said a few times since then....sorry for the confusion.

As said to Yog and a few others, it was a mistake on my part due to mis-remembering part of the rules.....I am now clear on what it actually said/meant.

Lolwut?

Are you saying that if Agent does something scummy down the line, you wouldn't take it into account?

Do I find Agentcarr's joke a good reason to lynch on its own? No.
Does this mean I'll strike it from the record? Of course not.
Can I fit another question mark into this post? I hope so.

I wasn't going to claim it, but since that's what we're doing...

I'm actually in House Wampus and my name is Egbert Worple-Chesterton. I'm not sure why I'm here at Hogwarts at all.

Did not SPF unvotus in post 80?

Your dedication to LAL is admirable, but questionable. Your perception of yogsloth as immensely susceptible to my stupid ideas shouldn't let him off the LAL hook. And I at least have precedent for this particular stupid idea.

Thanks. Changed. This is what happens when I have to count manually isntead of relying on that Conputio something spell.

I'll definitely talk to Dumbledore.

Repetere audio forti bass loop

*Shakes the head somewhat rythmically, then turns to the rest of the crew*

After listening to the speech again, that sounds about right, yes. The most numerous team combines the three remaining houses against Slytherin.

We do not know four sure if there is a third party present (possibly thanks to a previous impersonation of someone affiliated to one of the Houses). This hypotetical third party might not be necessary hostile to the other two teams? Also, might there be even a fourth party?

A hypothetical third faction is most likely a survivor of some kind.

A fourth faction? Unlikely.
