Half-Life series were interesting shooters with environmental puzzles and great sound design (like the sounds of opening doors, pushing buttons, climbing ladders) and good atmosphere, that's about it. In the same genre (kinda) games like Ultima Underworld or System Shock are way superior.

The ppl who think HL2 was so amazing that they've literally become cultists for HL3 and valve are just bizarre. HL3 could release tomorrow and I'd still probably wait for a 30% off sale.

It's obvious Valve have moved on from single-player games (or games in general?) because of Steam's ridiculous profits, it's more profitable to make multiplayer games like DOTA2 where you only have to make a map or two and that's it and sell cosmetic DLC on the side, as opposed to a singleplayer campaign with dozens of maps etc.

Do people still really care anymore? I feel sorry for you.

paladin181: Could be Episode 3. I'd find that more likely than HL 3. either way, they really let me down when they didn't finish the damn story.
Yup. Just release ep. 3 (there is no hype about it, so it doesn't have to be all that great), finish the damn story, and I don't need HL3.

I really want an end to the story but at the same time I really don't want to support Valve anymore :/

There are countless of fan fiction on the internet. You can read those.
Half-Life is closed, and newValve will never touch the franchise again. And why should they? They make fortunes on their microtransactions nowadays in CSGO and TF2.

Surprisingly enough they do. Surprisingly because Half-Life never was actually a good series, so I've concluded the series just causes some sort of mass psychosis where people just rave it's great. Like the Wire.
Half-Life is done for. Valve is not touching upon it anymore.

There are plenty of other games being released that are far better than Half-Life.

Let's forget about half-life.

A fan fiction ending is not an ending in my opinion, they're like branches from the original timeline, possible endings but not the real one. I want to know the real one, doesn't matter if it's better or worse than any fan fiction ever written, because it simply is the real ending.

The last part is what bothers me though, and is why I don't want to support Valve anymore. Why should they bother about HL3? Because creating games is about more than making money, it's about having fun. It should be incredibly exciting to work at something like Half-Life 3. It's not a project they should do because of money, but because they're game developers. Incredibly talented people work at Valve, as they've shown with more or less every game they've ever made, and it's really sad if these talented people have lost their passion for game developement. I don't necessarily need HL3 from Valve at the moment, I'm just curious to see if they still have what it takes to make a new game at all.

Still, I think Valve should give away Half-Life 3 to another studio. Give away or sell the script for the plot and whatever else they've made and let someone else finish it. If Valve don't make HL3 simply because they don't need to make money from it right now I don't think Valve deserve to make it at all.
They will never release it because they're afraid of us gamer bitching them out if they fuck it up. They are scared. Not worth the pitchforks and torches treatments hehe. :P

Half life 3 is never coming out because Valve doesn't make games anymore, it makes game distribution platforms
