I highly doubt there will be another half-life. That's a pity, given with what a cheap cliffhanger HL2 episode 2 ended.

Implicit in the announcement of a new engine is a new game. Of course, it remains to be seen what the new game is.

Few months ago someone found a few pics of The Plantation level from Left 4 Dead 2 rendered in a new engine, this very well could be made for a reference to show off Source 2.0 or one of the new games could be L4D3. Also there said to be found a trace in Dota 2 files indicating a possible future migration of the game into Source 2.0.

Given the date of the conference I was really hoping for the official Half-Life 3/Ep. 3 reveal...

Yeah. I've been saying that HL 3 will be released at the same time as their new console machine thingy since I heard they was developing one.

Well, Half-Life used an engine from id Software (used in one of their Quake games).
Half-Life 2 used Source as their engine.
It only makes sense that Half-Life 3 would use yet another engine. If Source 2 already exists, then it settles on which one.

I'd speculate that Half-Life 3 is already being worked on. That is not saying that the game will come out soon if it comes out at all --- Valve may scrap the project at some point. But game engines are a difficult sale if they cannot show their potential. I'd even risk saying that Doom 3 was made mostly to show off the engine!

In short, I expect to hear believable rumours about Half-Life 3 still this year, and that Valve plans to release it in a tie-in with their new hardware. It that works out OK, not even they can tell right now.

Dota2 uses Source 2. Source 2 just was not released for public consumption before. Using the release of Source 2 as a base for rumours of Half-Life 3 is.. well, short-sighted; it may happen, but it's more likely it won't.

Half-Life 3 is confirmed every day, every month, and every year. It's Valve's "trump card" if things ever go south.

You're more likely to see Left 4 Dead 3 or Dota 2 Revision than anything else.

At least they didn't do what Square Enix did and announce FF7 for the PS4... the windows port...

Half life 3 is real ! It has just been confirmed.

Half-Life 3 denied. After so many years of waiting. Gaben is a jerk. No, seriously, he's an asshole. Many fans have anticipated problems of this kind for ages, they should have just admitted that another Half-Life is not in the works / does not fit into their current business model / they are worthless designers who can't create a modern singleplayer game.
