One thing I hate about GOG is that they don't offer any kind of original images for old games. These are becoming increasingly harder to find because they are being taken down from abandonware sites because they are being sold on GOG. Sometimes the GOG version can even be some worse remake type of thing and not the original.
Sometimes this can feel like some old copyright holder realized that there are still a couple of bucks to be made from the game they sold in 1986 and just because that you now have to just use the GOG version.
i think someone should contact konami about releasing old pro evo soccer games here and metal gear rising

and contact koei about having there old dynasty warriors games on here i mean dynasty warriors 4 is a rare game to even come accross now ive only ever seen it on ebay, its not on any digital store but dynasty warriors 4-6 are the best in the series and should be on GOG

And this is why I hate it when people on their moral high horses attack pirates & abandonware sites. Right now, those are the only people in a position to preserve and distribute original copies. Think volunteer-run digital era museums with no entrance fee. No company can do that, because licensing bullshit gets in the way.

And that is why piracy & abandonware should be unconditionally supported, unlike any company.

^^^ THIS!!!

Anyone remember underground-gamer tracker?
They had amazing collection of old and really old games. With full scans, original floppy and cd images. True gaming museum.

And it was taken down because of some old FIFA game. If i recall corectly FIFA98 it was.
Supported yes, but unconditionally? HELL no.

If GOG suddenly started selling DRM'd games I would turn on them faster than ResetEra on someone with a different opinion.

The Konami of today is run by very, very stupid, arrogant people. You have no idea how much I'd love to buy Metal Gear Rising on here, but you have less chance of seeing Konami here than you do Valve.

This is the company who just found a way to add microtransactions to Contra.

GameRager: 1st bit: Some(varying percentage) might leave but I think many here would not care as much ab out such and more about sale prices(many like to save a buck) and the drm free aspect for SP games. I do not think it would make a noticeable difference for some, though.
I strongly suspect that those that don't mind missing updates/having games that lack features/content/fixes here are in the extreme minority. It was tried before, with "Armello: DRM-free Edition" - that did not go down well with the community at all and they eventually removed it from the store.

GameRager: 2nd bit: To me it is more the dev's/etc fault if gog's hands are tied with contracts and trying to lure more devs to the site by not dropping them too much......both seem viable here to me.
If GOG's hands are tied due to contracts then it's partly their fault for accepting contract terms that screw them over.
The systematic downvoting is strong in here.

Some years ago my stance would be much the same as the OP: unconditional support of GOG, because they were the only company doing things right.

Since then GOG have changed for the worse, like mentioned by adamhm and others, so my stance has changed as well. I still buy the odd game here (and still nothing elsewhere, except directly from developers), but I'm very disappointed at the direction GOG has been and is heading in.

1st: There are likely still a good number who don't mind some of those aspects or a combination of them, and that includes people who just want a version that works....even if it has no achievements/little extras/etc.

2nd: Again you default to saying "well gog is still at fault because..."....you seem to want to auto default to finding reasons to blame gog(just my observation). I GET that you want to remind me that gog has some fault here, but i;m not saying they don't...just that(to me) the dev/etc has a share as well and likely a bigger one than gog's.

Gog is a smaller store....they are likely not in the best bargaining position to negotiate the best terms for them and simply want ti sign devs/etc to get them to the store....which seems somewhat understandable to me(if they are a business and want to make money to keep going/etc).

And what about games that have game-breaking bugs halfway through, that get fixed elsewhere but not here (or we have to wait until they want to sell us some DLC before we get the fixes)?

And for missing content, I'm talking about missing actual content, stuff like DLC, expansions etc. and not merely inconsequential features like achievements.

Look at what happened with Armello:

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/armello_drmfree_edition_now_available_on_gog_2b6bf
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/armello_will_be_removed_from_the_store_today
https://www.gog.com/forum/armello/armello_drm_free_edition_removal
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/sick_of_devs_pulling_armello_moves_on_gog

That was the first time I can remember seeing a game's removal here being met with positive reception by the community.

That's because GOG are the only ones that can actually do anything about this! All we can do is express our disapproval and refuse to buy games that are affected or we think will be affected, and to warn others about it. We can complain to the publishers, but it's no concern to them as it's GOG's reputation that takes the damage.

First off thanks for keeping it civil and trying to debate....it is appreciated.

1st bit: If a game has game breaking bugs for some(not all I mean) then the game page should have a warning about such if they cannot stop selling it immediately for whatever reason(legal/etc). If it works for others they should still be able to buy it and the dev should be made to produce a fix for the issue if they want to continue doing business here after their contract runs out and needs to be renewed.

This way, people are warned about bugs/missing content and can still decide if they want to buy such(if they can run it) and the site can still make money off of those who can play it and the dev can be held to account.

Basically I am for measures on both ends and allowing games some can run to still be sold with a warning on the game's page and elsewhere while devs are made to fix such if they want to do business here when contracts need to be renewed/renegotiated.

2nd bit: No, the devs can also fix their products as well...both sides should be held to account(this is fair, right?). I also think warning people is fine(that is a rational and fair stance)......I just dislike people wanting devs off gog entirely for such even if said games can be run by some or if gog has no choice but to sell them(if they have to do so, that is).

And (people/in general) don't complain to publishers and devs via email/etc....use social media and raise a fuss like the outrage mobs do for whatever they don't like. They are effective tools and i'd rather they be used for good and worthwhile causes like making devs fix things than what most use them for.

=================
In the end I think we seem to agree on some aspects(warning people of bad/incomplete versions and devs making them, wanting those responsible to fix things, etc), which is nice when it happens(in general)...i.e. when people can find a common ground.

Thanks again for replying so much and so politely, once again. :)
