Bookwyrm627: So, DID you pick strongman?
avatar
GameRager: I find this subtle attempt to paint ZFR as scum to be.....disturbing.
Subtle? Do you also think bricks to the face are subtle?

avatar
flubbucket: So how do you feel about his suggestion to Out/Follow the Cop??
avatar
GameRager: I believe only the doctor should need to know(usually/for now) who the cop is, and that could be done with subtle hints if the cop did it and the doc picked up on such.

Dunno if that counts as cryptoclaiming or not, though.
It is cryptoclaiming if the code can't be broken without the "key". If it isn't cryptoclaiming, then, as ZFR points out, mafia could pick up on it when the doctor can't.

Or we could use a system. The cop will name a food item, like "apples", in their next post, all subtle like. The doctor will see that and know who to protect. Mafia will never figure it out! :P

avatar
ZFR: er.... no.

Subtle hints could mean Mafia pick it and the Doctor doesn't. There are 2 Mafia after all and just 1 Doctor, so statistically a bigger chance.

We either do Follow The Cop properly or not at all.
True but with outing the cop like that mafia would definitely know who they were.

The idea is that mafia can't do anything about even a publicly claimed cop if they can't find the doctor, unless they chose Strongman. If they chose Strongman, we'd know on D2 when there is a dead cop on the ground.

1. Depends...if lego bricks then maybe.

Also I was understating it a bit.

2. I sense a not so subtle mocking of my use of the word subtle. o.0

Good points. I forgot about that due to brainfart, so thanks for reminding me.

Yes, that's the strategy.

For those new, here is what it's about:
https://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Follow_the_Cop

Normally it is practically gamebreaking in an open setup where town knows they have a Cop and a Doctor and Mafia has no PR to defend against the strategy. In this case they might have a Strongman. If they don't - we're golden (or silver if they have a GF). If they do, we're screwed.

Hence my question: do we go for it?

I could throw a brick at your face, if that would help! ;)

If I'm the cop, you're going to have to wait for my claim.

Ah, so you're the Ninja?

Is the risk good enough to risk hoping the cop finds scum and we get them after night one's findings? I don't know....maybe, maybe not.

1. If it's a pez candy brick that's fine and encouraged. Strawberry and orange are my faves, btw.

2. If i'm the cop expect me to get killed by fellow town the first few days. :\

Microfish_1: Lift, please explain to me your reasoning: godfather shows innocent, but a watcher watches them go visiting. There's always the chance that watcher mistargets the cop, right?
Cop couldn't see ninja move, but could ID them. Same goes for Cop vs Strongman, right?
Exactly. A Godfather would seem innocent to the Cop. But a Watcher could see him visiting someone. Of course a Watcher could also see the Cop visiting someone, but I wouldn't call that a 'mistarget'. It's rather additional information. Say the Watcher watches someone and sees another player visit him. The next day the watched someone is still alive. With this the Watcher would know that the visitor was the Cop and can further on support the Cop if needed. (not lynch him, support his claim if he decides to claim). If, however, the watched someone dies, then the visitor was scum. This distinction is 100% since there are no scum roles in this game that could visit someone without killing. The only role that the Watcher would be blind to would be the Ninja. But that one would read 'guilty' to a Cop investigation.

Oh and btw. as of flubbs vote we have the following votes, I think:

Cop - 5 votes (Microfish_1, ZFR, Lifthrasil, trentonlf, flubb)
Watcher - 4 votes (Bookwyrm627, ZFR, Lifthrasil, trentonlf)
Doctor - 5 votes (Bookwyrm627, RedFireGaming, Micro, Pooka, flubb)
Roleblocker - 0 votes
Tracker - 0 votes

So, if this was a concerted effort to push the Doctor up, beyond the previously co-leading Watcher, we can assume that scum chose a Strongman and knows the Doctor will be mostly useless.
Bump
Thanks. For some reason I didn't see the entire 2nd page. So my post is a bit behind the time. But still, the Doctor got pushed up quite quickly by three consecutive votes. Finished by the unexplained vote from flubb. So it might be possible that flubb + [Pooka or Micro] are scum and decided that having two investigative roles would be too dangerous.

That would make sense if they either chose Strongman (Doctor would be useless) or Godfather (and wanted to avoid him being found out by the Watcher)

Sorry for seeing through your subtlety. But you might use this opportunity to explain why you thought that Cop+Doctor would be better in this game than Cop+Watcher.
i see. thanks for explaining, Lift. Now I'm saddened because GR didn't get a chance to speak before the vote was hammered, and his commenting after-the-fact isn't as good of an arguement as beforehand woulda been.

However, Perhaps I set up something bad and got played for a sucker by choosing doc, (if 4&5 are scum) or maybe Lift is scum and just has good-sounding reasoning.

WIFOM is fun.
