Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Lord_Britania: I installed the alpha this afternoon, but it seems that not all of my games are displayed in the Library page. Is it normal in the current state of the software ?
Yes. Read first post.

Please read the first post. Not all games from our catalog are currently Galaxy Client friendly. We're adding more at a regular basis.

EDIT: Beat to the punch by JMich ;)

Expack: Upon my first installation of the Galaxy Client alpha, I noted none of my games which were installed via the GOG.com Downloader appeared as "installed", despite the client alpha's game data folder set to the same as the Downloader: D:/GOG Games.
At the moment the Galaxy Client doesn't import games installed outside of it. You need to reinstall them if you want them to work from the client.

Thanks for the answers as the first post last update was in December i thought it may have change.

For an alpha version i'm quite surprised it work this good.

Same for me. All Star Wars and many other are gone in the client (thank God they appear on the web page)

See page one, not all game work with the client yet. :)

EDIT: Speaking of which page one should get an update to reflect recent changes probably...

Star Wars XWing and TIE Fighter are missing from my Galaxy as well. My initial thought was that they probably de-flagged them as ready on Galaxy while they fix up the packaging and directory structure of those titles as it was broken previously. After thinking about it a bit though and noticing my total game count in Galaxy I see that it is 236, which is what it was in the previous release also. Then I just realized that... I installed Star Wars XWing and TIE Fighter myself manually outside of Galaxy and Galaxy just happened to magically notice them and display the on my left hand installed library pane. I don't think the games ever showed up in the Galaxy library section before.

Oh if your getting that then that means the standalone installers are set up for Galaxy but the game files are not on Galaxy's servers yet. The game should work just fine in Galaxy but won't get updates until it's fully implemented on Galaxy's servers.

I have a few games like that now, eventually when GOG adds them to Galaxy's servers, Galaxy updates them to be fully compatible with Galaxy.

Maybe it is possible to make a list of games that aren't included in galaxy alpha so this won't happen again (and saving many heart attacks). XD

Got a list of games that do that by chance? XWing and TIE Fighter are the only 2 I've encountered so far myself.

If anyone does actually have a heart attack over something missing though, one shouldn't worry about it because GOG isn't going to go permanently removing anything from our accounts or anything like that, however temporary glitches like the issue of Fallout disappearing and reappearing may happen due to $unknown_bugs so other random weirdness should probably be expected both in the Galaxy client and the website for a while I imagine. ;oP

Well some of them have gotten the full Galaxy treatment, but the ones I know of still doing this that I own are Mark of the Ninja, Terraria. Rayman 3, Rayman 2, & Space Zombies & Pirates. They say offline rather than up to date in Galaxy.

Ah, don't own any of those ones. :) I'm trying to make it through my catalogue slowly but it takes so long to download/install over the Internet to just uninstall a short while later after I'm done testing to my satisfaction. Slow process. :) Also, my installation drive is kind of low on disk space which throws off my tester mojo. :)

I rarely download my games via Galaxy. I will once the backup feature is added, but I use multiple PC's right now so I simply grab the installers and import the game into Galaxy. Much quicker than having to re-download. Which is how I have found so many installers that work but are not fully implemented. GOG has updated a few of though by now. :)
Just tried the galaxy Client today , looks pretty good and seems to work fine for me so far , i don't have any games in my library that don't show up tho i don't have too many to begin with. i do agree with d3vilsadvocate about adding the option for it to be boarder-less , its not something needed persay but it would be nice for ppl who play on large TVs to not see the them if its maximized tho i think if added it should be a setting in options. i also agree with BattleDim that it would be nice if it tracked playtime too as i like to use sites like how long to beat to manage my gaming backlog and knowing how long you played something helps, achievements are also a nice idea since i've always liked them in steam, xbla, and psn.

I can't think of too much off the top of my head otherwise that it needs imo honestly , i would like it to recognize games i already had installed via gog.com downloader but that was already mentioned along with maybe recognizing my steam games so i only have 1 place i'd need to open them from. the one thing i would like added or if it already exists is a pause botton on downloads , i feel like it probly already exists but i couldn't find it when i went to look for one so that could be helpful.
