Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Back/Forward navigation in the Store section
- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store
- Option to Show Game Folder added to MORE menu
- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account
- Fixed some issues when installing and uninstalling DLCs
- Bugfix: client will now not allow dragging elements onto its window

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Woo hoo. Cant wait to break it!!
Is there any plans to add a speed limiter like with the GOG downloader? Being on a slower connection, I like to still be able to watch videos and such while downloading games.

Thanks!
I had to turn off "GOG.com Downloader Mode" because when the downloader launched, it added the Galaxy Client Alpha as a paused download, and there was no way of unpausing/resuming it. I tried changing the download path and restarting the computer, but didn't work.
where do I add some feedback, here?

I really like the client, here is what I would change though:

-add borderless window mode
-text looks hard to read at 2560x1440 with DPI scaling at 125%, please add high DPI modes.
-let me chose my own client language please
-let me chose what installes games show up on the left
-add forum acces
-add a tray icon and minimize to tray option
-the games in my library do not show up in alphabetical order, it's all a mess right now

Hope I could help, keep going!

Venom: Hi everyone,

after a... small delay... we've pushed a significant update to the Galaxy Client (v.0.4.*), the most important changes include:
<snip>
Awesome! Thanks very much for all of the hard work you guys are putting into this!
Looking forward to testing the new build now.

I also had the same issue.

I just encountered this also, adding Galaxy client to GOG Downloader it showed up "Initialized" then "paused" and was stuck like that. Restarted, cleared it, redownloaded and it remained stuck on paused. I found a workaround though, go back to your web library shelf, and turn off GOG downloader mode, then download it manually through the web browser and that works. Probably a glitch they'll have fixed later today I imagine.

About to install it now... :)
Just got the Alpha, and I'm still messing around with it, but here's a couple of minor things so far:

- ToonStruck doesn't work in the client :(
- My Library: I think the wooden shelves in the library look *super* dated, like Mac software circa mid-2000s. It doesn't help that unlike the website, which has "boxes" on the shelves, the client has text panels sitting on the shelves. I'd rather it look like "Browse Games", with no shelves.
- My Library: In List view, for games that are installed, the rating, platform icons and genre are shifted to the right, out of slignment with games that aren't installed.
- Settings Window: Directory path boxes are unevenly spaced.
- Settings Window: Connections text is missing an s: "Number of current connection".
- Settings Window: "Ok" should presumably be "OK".

Is this the right place to post this stuff? The opening post says not to post stuff, but then how do we share feedback?

Just some feedback, I have 78 games but only 64 appear in the library section? Besides the odd bug I like what I see, hope there is a in-game interface soon as well as a hours played option!

The proper place for bug reports (unfortunately not given in the first post yet, hopefully they update that with the URL later), is http://mantis.gog.com just use your normal GOG login info. They don't want people posting reviews/first impressions and that sort of thing here because it isn't a finished product so such things are not very meaningful but other end user customers may read such things and read a lot more into them and form opinions about the product that are incorrect based on ancient information in a review of a developmental build that isn't anywhere near feature complete or bug free.
They did mention it is ok to post feature requests/suggestions here though, and I presume it is ok to point out some problems like mentioned above about being unable to download with GOG downloader along with a workaround for others and similar as that's not really a review or impression but rather assistance to others possibly experiencing the same problem, but if I'm wrong on that hopefully a GOG will correct me. :)

This is answered in the 1st post which is highly recommended for everyone to read completely through or you may miss crucial alpha testing information/instructions. Also, if you experience any problems/glitches it is also a good idea to read all the posts in the forum to know what others have experienced already and any workarounds or information already known and posted here for them to avoid duplication. Another tip, is to log in to http://mantis.gog.com and search to see if a particular problem you've experienced is an already known and reported bug in their official bug tracker.

Hope this helps.

Weird thing happened to me when I got alpha invite. My password stopped working. I couldn't log into client so I logged out of gog.com in browser and couldn't log back in. I use password manager so I'm sure that it was proper one. I reset password and everything works now. I was going to change it anyway - it was pretty weak. But it's quite an anomaly.

Probably not what happened to you, but I notice that the new client now asks for your email address to log in instead of your username as it did before (unless I'm mistaken), and this temporarily tripped me up. :)
Thanks to my ISP, I can't use direct downloads from GOG. I have to use Galaxy or the Downloader to download anything. This is problematic, because the Downloader isn't downloading this new version of the client. Downloading anything else seems to work fine. The Downlaoder claims the download is "Paused," but in reality both the Resume All and Pause All buttons are disabled!

I was just going to wait until tomorrow to see if anything changed, but figured sending a message might be best just in case.

The downloader issue should be fixed right now.

Have you tried reinstalling the GOG downloader?
