Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Tried this out yesterday and it worked pretty well. I think something went wrong with the installation the first time, because it kept giving me a "Missing Components" (or something) error, but I reinstalled and it worked fine. Could not reproduce, so it might have been a fluke.

Tried installing/playing a few things, and it all worked perfectly. It already has almost all the features I wanted, so nice work GOG team! The only thing left that I'm looking forward to is some way to categorize my games. :)

stevieknix: Can you pause downloads in Galaxy? If you can I have not found the option.
Push pause in the download tab.

I don't see it. I can see the games I have installed as well as the game I am currently downloading, but I don't see a button or anything to pause that download.
"Missing Components" when installing on other then the default install directory.
I just started playing around with the client for the first time this morning. I was so excited to see the email about it this morning! I'm really liking the client so far and can't wait to see more features roll out in time.

One thing I would suggest (and I'm not sure if this was already mentioned so apologies in advance) is to display the download size for a game prior to actually starting the download; ideally this would be displayed next to the install button. Edit: never mind, I found it in the "download extras" section.

Thanks for the invite!

I have an issue. I have installed galaxy and tried to download a game. The game always fails to download and I get the error message: INSTALLATION FAILED: OUT OF DISK SPACE. I have 128GB space left though. Is there any way I can solve this problem? I have changed the default installation folder to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Games.

Submit the issue here if you could: mantis.gog.com
For me everything works except pictures for Star Wars: X-wing and Star Wars: Tie-Fighter. Every other game from my library has it's picture showed. It is like that only in Galaxy, on website the pictures are just fine.

IronArcturus: Yes! Plus add this to regular Game Shelf on the website!

Kierdel: Let me add another vote for such a feature.

Some other flags would also be useful. For example: "Must find time to play it as soon as possible", "Only in my library because of a bundle", "Hated it, never want to see it again on my list". Or simply user-defined flags/folders.
It may not be exactly what you want, but you can hide games from the library using the right hand drop down menu.

Yeah that's common. Keep in mind not all games are supported yet and all that.

StorkV88: So as I was checking the GoG Galaxy client, there's one thing I can't take! -_- the borders and windows interface, they are not aesthetically pleasing!

The windows buttons should be integrated seamlessly in the interface, like in the battle.net launcher one of the most aesthetically pleasing launchers out there. Now I know we're in Alpha testing but was just putting it out there.

For the rest I like the client it does, what it needs, can't wait for the rest of the features.
This is exactly what we DON'T need. Galaxy window should behave like a normal windowed, not like a clumsy "launcher"-style floating box.

Siilk: * Don't make Galaxy client a requirement for accessing our GOG games libraries or playing the games we bought on GOG. There should be always an option to log into your library form a browser, download an installer(or just grab the one you downloaded), install it and play, all without any interactions with Galaxy client. Players should use Galaxy because of it's convenience, not because they are forced to do that.
I believe GOG has already made it clear that the client will always be optional.

Siilk: * Separate autoupdate settings for each game. I think it's a must-have. Some games, like multiplayer-focused titles, pretty much require you to keep them up to date. Single player games in the other hand work perfectly without being updated. So let player decide which games he wants to be updated automatically and to which he will download updates manually when/if he will want to.
This is already in place. Select an installed game, then select More->Configure.
First taste of Galaxy, and I'm importing the games that are already installed on my drive. Scanning seems to take a long time, but hey, I'm only doing it in bulk once. Digging the look and feel, and it seems to be organized pretty well. One thing: I'd love to have page navigation buttons on the TOP of the page in my library, as well as the bottom, so I don't have to scroll down to get to the next page.

It's probably a permissions issue. The app may not be able to write to that directory. If this is the case, then the error message could be a bit more specific.
Dumb question incoming! Anyway I installed Aliens vs. Predator 2000 (after an issue of it hanging at 99.9% and installing after I restarted the client). I noticed it didn't give me a setup EXE, I'm guessing this is to make things easier.

My question, after Galaxy officially launches, will I still be able to download setups from the site, like I've always have? I still like the Setup programs as I can back those up easily to CD-R and DVD-R to have my "physical" offline copy.

Really, being able to back up easily and install without Internet access has always been my favorite thing about GOG.
