If you want to egg on your legislators to quit being old fogies, then perhaps Germany wouldn't be a horrible sore thumb of the world.

Really, could someone explain to me the vehement censorship? Have they really not gotten over the years of 1930-1946? Or was there some more recent event?

I answered your question, moron.

I just don't like you, I haven't for some time, I rather thought you were aware of it but just in case there'sstill any question.

Roxolani: Do Australia and Germany have a lot of censored games? The worst countries for games and gamers?

Klumpen0815: In case of Germany, let's see:

Turok 1 - Robots instead of humans (in the jungle!)
Carmageddon - Zombies with green blood instead of humans with red blood
Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 - Removed separation of body parts, removed all blood, removed rag doll physics
Doom 1 - (formerly) Banned
Doom 2 - (formerly) Banned
Quake 1 - (formerly) Banned
Quake 3 Arena - Banned
Wolfenstein 3D - No swastikas and no blood
Return to Castle Wolfenstein - same as in Wolfenstein 3D
Jedi Knight 1+2 - No separation of body parts via lightsaber
Fallout 1+2 - No gory deaths, no children in-game
Fallout 3 - No blood, no gore at all, the slow motion death scenes stayed and are slow motion "falling asleep" scenes

do I have to go on?
I could do this all day.

Germany is with violence what USA is with boobs and porn.
In fallout 1 the children were not removed, they were made invisible. This was a terrible solution, although quickly solved the same way you would if you could see them (carry nothing but a time bomb and let them pickpocket you)

It's not that simple. The reunification only took place in 1989, for instance. Nazism and WW2 are still very sensitive subjects in Germany, or so it seems to a layman like me (I'm european and I've been to Germany once, but that's it). Then again, the same can be said of many other european countries.

The-Business: Wait - WHAT?!
Didn't you know? Hitler is the final boss of the game. In the censored version in Germany (and Austria, I think?) it's a generic blond guy inside a robotic suit.

snowkatt: gog has to abide by the law in the countries they sell in
its why hot line miami 2 isnt for sale to australians
the game is unrated and there for illegal to buy in australia

it sucks but t'laws are the laws
Sell in, but not sell to. However, not abiding by the laws of the country the purchaser is from can piss off the authorities (hypothetically) and could be made into an issue, even if they don't have a leg to stand on. We had (have) a major tax avoidance scandal in the UK that pretty much sums up what could happen - powerless authorities desperately trying to make it look like an international company is in the wrong and hoping they're making enough noise to mask their impotence.

I don't click on random links, but at least now we won't waste each other's time.

realkman666: Do you know if he would want to start puffing?
avatar
Ragnarblackmane: of course I'd have to convince him of the efficacy and the non-addictive properties first, he is of the old school
If anecdotes count for anything I use it to treat a missing disk in my spine (along with cyclobenzeprine and gabapentin) and it gives me enough reliefe to get up and walk around. I can do stuff like help shop for groceries again. Truly a wonderful thing.
Kinda off-topic, but it is disturbing that video games depicting Nazis as bad guys to be killed by the player are banned in Germany. Are German lawmakers trying to support Nazism? That's just sad.

Ciris: Rest assured that if you've already bought a game - nothing will retroactively disappear from your shelves."
The same way we can rest assured that GOG will stay true to it's principles and never introduce regional pricing or regional locks???

Right at the moment we don't have much reason to trust you any longer... :(

Wow, it's crazy...
Btw, is regional locking based on ip ? I see that I can change country in settings...

Yup, IP-based.

I suffer from chronic pain, and can barely get around, but don't live in one of the more "enlightened" states (I suspect Texas, Kansas, Utah, and my state of Virginia will be the last to lift the stupid prohibition and it will be long after I'm dead and gone) but I used to smoke two packs of cigarettes a day, and my lungs are shot.

Are there alternatives to the food option if one would rather not puff? Wish there were a pill or liquid form available, although again, by the time my backwards state catches up I'll be long gone.

Imo it should be based on user declaration, like sites for adults, or declarations that you are healthy and know sport risks f.e. :/
