JudasIscariot: According to this post http://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher_2/libsdl2_issue_breaks_linux_mint_17/post3

libSDL2-2.0:i386 requires libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386

libSDL2-2.0-0:i386, which should be listed on the M&B Warband gamecard as such, does not require the Mint breaking libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386

As the user in that post said it's the extra "-0" that makes all the difference :)
avatar
BKGaming: I'm 99% sure I copied it straight from the game card... okay let me check this then when I get Mint installed again. I missed that in that post. Sorry and thank you. :)
avatar
JudasIscariot: Do you still have the debs?
avatar
BKGaming: Yep that is what I'm trying to copy to my second hard-drive before I wipe Mint. But it's telling me permission denied when I try to copy.
You might be able to try and copy the files as root but I am not sure how to go about that myself :/

Yea I tried open the folder as root, doesn't seem to work. :/

edit: nevermind I can't read

I am not sure what's blocking you :/ Googling this is proving to be ineffective or my google-fu is weak :/

Figured it out, had to be in root on both the original and second hard-drive for it to copy. :)
avatar
BKGaming: Obviously if GOG is telling people to install libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 which needs libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386... and thanks breaks Mint... then that needs to be looked into.
avatar
vv221: Yep, and we will look into it tomorrow once you’ve a functional system again.
It might take some time, but you should have libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 *and* cinnamon by the end of the day. I’m used to take care of problems far worse than this one ;)
You are Judas wouldn't know of a easy way of just backing up or copying the recent Mint updates would you? Not a big deal if not, I'll just do it in the morning.

Ah nice :D

Glad to hear you got it sorted :)

As for the other question I am not sure how but vv221 might know :)

Thanks Judas for the help, I'll report back on libSDL2-2.0-0:i386 when I get Mint re-installed.

All the .deb packages you have already downloaded can be found in the directory '/var/cache/apt/archives'.

backup, from your up-to-date system: 'cp -av /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb /some/external/directory'
restore, on your new system (as root): 'cp -av /some/external/directory/*.deb /var/cache/apt/archives'

Then, launch your upgrade as usual. Every packages backuped/restored that way should not need to be downloaded again.

Thanks got them.

Been a good linux learning experience so I can't complain. xD
I just ran a quick test on my Debian: cinnamon and libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 can be installed side by side.
So it should be possible on Mint too without too much hassle.

Break things.
Fix things.
Learn things.

That’s why I love GNU/Linux ;)

Okay so whenever I try to install libsdl2-2.0-0:i386, copied right from the game card I get this.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 : Depends: libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386 (>= 10.0.2) but it is not going to be installed or
libwayland-egl1:i386

And that is with the "-0".

In the terminal I'm putting "sudo apt-get install libc6:i386 libasound2:i386 libasound2-data:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386 libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 libfreetype6:i386 libqtgui4:i386 libcurl3-gnutls:i386 libglew1.10:i386", copied right from M&B Warband game card.

Perhaps libsdl2-2.0:i386 is the one that does not require libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386 with the ".0"?

I am not sure what's going on but I know Crimsonland requires that same library and I had to install the libraries listed on the game card http://www.gog.com/game/crimsonland and that library did not call for libwayland on my Mint 17.1 machine O.o

I really have no clue what in the heck is going on so the only thing I can suggest is sending us a Support ticket about this so that we can investigate this further.

edit: I will note that I am running Mint 17.1 KDE and not Cinnamon and maaaaybe this is something related to Cinnamon only?

edit 2: you can try the following command, shouldn't break your system this time I promise :)

sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get update

then

sudo apt-get upgrade

Okay I may have to do that... this is a complete copy of what I'm seeing on fresh install of Mint 17.1:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Note, selecting 'libasound2-data' instead of 'libasound2-data:i386'
libasound2-data is already the newest version.
libasound2:i386 is already the newest version.
libasound2-plugins:i386 is already the newest version.
libqtgui4:i386 is already the newest version.
libc6:i386 is already the newest version.
libfreetype6:i386 is already the newest version.
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 : Depends: libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386 (>= 10.0.2) but it is not going to be installed or

Well, I would say "install the other one" but I'd recommend holding off anything for now since I've indirectly broken your Linux install once :/

This is a bit beyond me so a Support ticket will have to do :)

I'll send one..

But I do remember I had the same issue with the Witcher 2... but I don't have Witcher 2 downloaded right now to install. But I remember a member of the community created a zip file with the required packages and I dropped that straight into the Witcher 2 directory. It was the only way I could get it to work on Mint 17 Cinnamon.

If that download is still up, I grab that package and drop into M&B.
