Breja: But as it is, there's absolutely no reason not to take every freebie
No reasonable reason. ; ) I know it doesn't necessarily make sense, but there it is.
I'm with the OP - I tend to pass on free games unless it's something that genuinely interests me. I don't want a whole load of games I'll never play clogging up my library, even if they can be hidden. I guess if you already have hundreds of games it makes very little difference, but my library is still (just) at the size where it's manageable without a whole load of tags and sorting systems, and I want to keep it that way.
I pass unless it is something I might be interested in. I always think I will leave it for someone who would actually play it.
Gotta have 'em all, and **** tha haters.
there are games you know your not going to get into then there are those you can't wait to try, for me this freebie falls in the first catagory, so I'm passing. but there are others I've picked up, such as Black flag, I even tried Hard west....not one I would normaly try, still, I'm not overly interested in it.

When I find a game I like I tend to stick with it till I'm utterly bored, such as Fallout 4 (pre CC release) I've got close to 4K hours in it and same with Skyrim.
Yeah, if it's something I know I'm probably never going to play, then I don't redeem it. I don't want extra digital clutter.
If it's just one click to get the game - I'm not selective at all. After all what if in some future I will have a reason to play this particular game. Like someone would compare this game to another one and I would like to see if that's true. Like Dungeons 2 - there was giveaway on account of Dungeons 3 release.

On the other hand there was one time "Layers of Fear" on indiegala and I passed, because I it was several clicks and captchas. And I just didn't like how the game looks (and I'm not into horror genre also).
Not if it's not a style or genre I'm interested in. That would change if we got a redeemable code like the spend limit freebies that I could then donate later to someone who wanted the game but missed the freebie.
I skipped a few freebies in the past but kind of regretted it later, since owning them would have given me a better discount on some bundles. Nowadays I just pick up everything, if it's stuff I'm not interested in I just don't download it.

HereForTheBeer: I figure that if I KNOW would never play it, then why bother? Library = Library + 1? I've nabbed some over the years, but it's not a knee-jerk click whenever the free-stuff banner comes up.
Well, you're here for the beer and not for the free games, so at least you're consistent.
We all make our choices, Beer - it's one of the freedoms we (still) have on the internet. Whether you take GOG's offers or not is of no consequence to you or anyone else. ^_^

I will say, though, that there is truth to the old saying that the best things in Life are free. GOG has a habit of offering {b}very{/b} good (niche) games as temporary freebies so a little experimentation with titles like Giants: Citizen Kabuto or Mount & Blade or even TDR, in this case, certainly doesn't hurt. ~_^

I will also admit that I have passed on/given away freebies that didn't interest me.

I play games to have fun and/or reward myself, so 'flawed diamonds' like Hard West and Breach & Clear: Deadline Rebirth won't be in my collection anytime soon. (I can see why others would enjoy them, though) ^_^

Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about the 'digital clutter' here on GOG or anywhere else - to freely explore the creative diversity of one's collection can be rewarding in itself.

Variety is the spice of Life, after all. ^_^
I take them all just in case. Since you can hide games in your library, my library becoming cluttered isn't really a concern.
I always get them. What I'm interested in now is not the same thing I'll be interested in in 2 years. I give random games a try all the time, just to get out of the comfort zone and try something different. Some excellent gaming experiences have come from games I'd never consider buying.

The virtual shelf is just that, any crowding of it is also virtual, so I don't care...it's not real...it's not like my collection of old boxed games, I can't take them down and stroke them and smell that cardboard and ink. It's not real so neither is the crowding. And for backup, well storage space is cheap.
Just get 'em so you have 'em? That's what I do. Many I'll never play, but I have 'em.
The only free game i regret adding to my account is a Steam key i got for free for the game Dead Effect from Fanatical/Bundle Stars. I went on the game's page after i added it to my account and the first news post i see is from the developers of the game defending themselves against claims that their game was data mining players. Yaaaaa.... I think i'll just leave that one untouched on my account.
