trentonlf: I was torn on revealing this because I still wanted to be able to protect someone tonight if we are not successful in lynching the CL today, but I felt that revealing this now is more beneficial for us than waiting.
avatar
dedoporno: Why was that needed? I doubt there will be a counter-claim to this, so I'll assume you are telling the truth about being the alarmist, but why did you feelt he need to step out and out yourself like that? Neither you nor HSL were under and actual pressure at the moment, or anyone else for that matter. Why come out?

I have a few more things to add to this but that'll have to wait until later when I get home from work, so I can have more time to write.

dedoporno: I'm unable to go through your big post, since I'm in the office but did you see trent's post before you posted?
Because I think it’s in towns favor for me to reveal this now rather than hold onto it. I wasn’t recruited last night and I don’t think HSL is the CL or I wouldn’t have protected him so I know he wasn’t recruited last night. To me that means two confirmed townies and that makes our odds of finding the CL much higher today.

HypersomniacLive: So do tell, did you?
No. How about you? Did you convert flubb tonight? Or aren't you the CL after all?

Dammit, trent, I wish you hadn't revealed that if it's true! ... It's good to know that we have an Alarmist, but it is very, very bad that scum now knows who it is. But maybe we can use this to buy enough time to win this.

I was waiting for the right moment to claim myself. I just wanted to take some time to judge whether anyone would try to argue on flubb's behalf. Since the one thing I know for sure is, that flubb is scum.

I'm the Town Inquisitor. And tonight I spied on Joyce Cooper / flubbucket and found out that (s)he is a Cult member. That means either flubb is the CL or he was converted tonight (I also get a 'Cult' result on fresh recruits).

If you really are the Alarmist, please protect me tonight, that I can have another night with a reliable result without danger of being recruited myself. Unless, of course, we are lucky and flubb is the CL (50% chance). Then they probably won't be able to convert anyone tonight.

100% the alarmist, and at this point the only option we have for our first lynch is flub. If he flips town you are the next lynch and if he flips CL or member than you are confirmed town (hopefully CL so HSL is confirmed too and we are guaranteed a win).

There is no buying time unless we kill the CL.

And this is an excellent time to sit back and wait for everyone to pop in the thread and confirm they're up to date. This is my confirmation.

Unvote HSL.
Development!

I was going to post some possible scenarios because of which I didn't like Trent coming out in the way he did but Lift's report mitigates some of them.

I don't see an acceptable reason why not to believe the alarmist claim since there is no way Trent knows he won't be counter-claimed and that doesn't seem to be happening.

That being said, I was afraid that HSL recruited Trent and so he can mitigate at least half of the options for HSL being hunted as scum. In addition to this I saw Trent as a fine target since there was no way his tunnel on myself was changing (unless he was the Inquisitor and he investigated me). In that case he could just continue pursuing me without fearing a notice in behavior or reasoning might expose him.

On another note I was actually expecting that Wyrm might really be the Inquisitor and he got a positive scum read on Lift, but I guess that is not the case after all. Anyway, we don't have a way of knowing whether Lift wasn't recruited - that should be testable by lynching flub first. There is a microscopic possibility the recruit is bussing the CL for the ultimate town credit but that's so out there that I don't think it's reasonable to play around it. And if it is the case and it does work out I'll be more than happy to lose in that way.

Yesterday I had another theory that Flub was actually the Inquisitor but he let Wyrm soft-claim for him so he could have more breathing room. I read Flub's posts about his talent shining on day three and building a wall around him as a subtle hint about him being the real Inquisitor and being a good choice for protection. That's why I didn't want to push for him, but as it turns out that wasn't even intentional nor true. That might have been the CL trying to push away an investigation while attracting the protection so he himself can try and go after Wyrm. Or not. Even if that was the plan I doubt the CL went for Wyrm, so yeah.

With all that said now I'm quite on board with lynching flub.

How so? Even if the CL doesn't die today we get one more day by lynching his cultist as opposed to losing straight away with 2 mislynches. Or is my math wrong? As a matter of fact no lynch may be the best option for the second lynch Today.
PLEASE DO NOT FINISH OFF FLUB UNTIL EVERYONE HAS BEEN IN THE THREAD AGAIN.

Not like I can stop you, but I know that's my personal preference. Of course, if someone goes missing for days, we'll have to do without them.

It was the first part of a thought while I was reading Lift's post. The abrupt break-off of my thinking comes with the next quote. The CL has a guaranteed way of recruiting someone if the alarmist is known. Maybe my numbers are off; I'm currently not in a position to carefully check each of the possible iterations.

I also haven't had a chance to really process the claims and work through the possible iterations. Maybe murdering Flub as the first lynch today IS the best choice; I'm not discounting it, I just need time to work through the claims and player behaviors before I'm ready to commit.

The Greater Good

I had a few things to reply to Bookwyrm627 (post #389), but in light of the recent developments, I put them aside (at least for now).

I don't see why trentonlf would lie; as dedoporno said, he could in no way know he'd not be counterclaimed. Plus, knowing I'm still town, and reading his other posts, I really don't see why trentonlf as CL/cultist would make this play Today when there may not be a D3, especially after Lifthrasil's claim.
Lifthrasil's claim is a bit trickier, but it can be tested, given that we have two lynches Today.

I'd like to hear from both flubbucket and mchack, especially flubbucket, but I'm on board lynching him first.

Lifthrasil: No. How about you? Did you convert flubb tonight? Or aren't you the CL after all? [...]
I couldn't have recruited flubbucket, or anyone else for that matter, for the very simple reason that I am not the CL.

Lifthrasil: [...] Unless, of course, we are lucky and flubb is the CL (50% chance). Then they probably won't be able to convert anyone tonight.
[emphasis added]

If flubbucket flips CL, his recruitment ability dies with him (doesn't it?), so why "probably"?

I don't think Lift is the CL, since the same logic about counter-claiming applies to him. If Lift is cult the he has been recruited last night, but he is/was the Inquisitor unless someone counter claims him. The only option in which I can see Lift bussing is if he is bussing the actual CL, maybe to follow up on his D1 play, but I find that extremely unlikely.

I thought about the counterclaim, but wanted to see if I wasn't perhaps missing something that made the case possible.
I also don't think he'd be bussing the CL, as then he'd have to make it to end game all on his own, and that's no small feat, no matter the town credit.

On a completely unrelated note - is anyone else being GOG-bear'd to death?

I am and it happened on a fully loaded page while I was reading a post, probably some heartbeat script running for the notifications or something. Weird.
