So, it seems that the following line from my post:
Ciris: Sorry if you're feeling this bitter about our social media crowd - but this is exactly why this post was made, to let the forum users know as well about an event they may have otherwise missed :)
raised quite a lot of discussion. So since the contest is going to be over in a short time anyway, how about I answer these questions, accusations, and complaints.
Elmofongo: I don't have Facebook or Twitter and don't want to.
Literally no one is forcing you to. You simply don’t have to participate. Similarly, if we were doing a real-life event, say on Gamescom, and you didn’t have a way to get there, it would not be held against you if you didn’t make it.
Cyraxpt: Hey Ciri, is it possible to ask around the office to send someone over here so that we (community) can discuss the problems with gog/forum?
I’ll try to arrange for some form of forum AMA/Q&A session with someone from the website team, someone from the product team, someone from the business development (game-signing) team, and someone from the galaxy team. I'm not sure how far off in the future it'd happen, but I'll try to make it happen not too far off. How’s that?
HypersomniacLive: I assume that this "let the forum users know as well" does not apply to other announcements of interest made on your social media, like an item in the sale
making its last appearance, eh?
On-site, you can see a 24-hour timer letting you know when deals expire. During the next sale, I can try to participate more in a thread where I’d post deals that are appearing for the last time - however, the workload has run high during this sale (and right after the TW3 release) for us all. Wishbone: You mean unlike your
usual approach, where you make announcements of this and that on Facebook and Twitter, and the people who only use the forum,
your own forum, on your own
site, are none the wiser?
We make announcements of stuff in news posts on the website. That’s what they’re for, and they are curated by a content manager. I curate social media, and the rules about what goes there are much more liberal - as I’m the one who makes them.
However, all releases, updates, and new game content do appear on the forum in news posts, dedicated forum threads, and profile notifications.
Wishbone: I don't mind you having a social media presence (why would I?), but it does annoy me when you make social media a
requirement It’s not a requirement. As I compared above, it’s kind of as if people got upset over us announcing a live meetup in a place they can’t get to at the time of the meetup - it’s not a REQUIREMENT to be there, since you’re free to simply not join. Same as this contest :)
Phew.
Wall of text done.
Time for a
TL;DR:
I hope that helps clear things up and gives off the vibe of:
1) you’re not REQUIRED to participate in anything you don’t want to be a part of;
2) some people that use social media are on these forums more often than social media, and this announcement is mainly for them;
3) I’ll try to make time to announce stuff in a more specific way on the forums if the current information flow is not satisfying to some of you.
