I'm in as well! My guess: Spain

ZFR: Cyprus is NOT in Europe. It's closest to Asian part of Turkey and Syria (I've visited Cyprus anyway, so it's a moot point).
Aw man, why did you have to remind me that? :-/ I tend to forget it like the whole time, 'cause people here are/feel Greek and speak Greek too-it feels just like Greece, just not in Greece per se, most of the time!
Btw, which places in Cyprus you visited? Also, hope you had a nice time there!
And yes, my listed location "Cyprus" is correct- I do live in Cyprus, so I know what I'm talking about. :-)

Anyways, thanks again for hosting this giveaway ZFR and +1!

drealmer7: Monaco
So, I'm a bit confused on how this will work. 1 guess every 2 hours, needing 4 guesses guessed correctly to win, meaning an ideal situation will win after 8 hours IF they guess a correct country with each guess? This means we should ignore previous guesses from others and just guess our 4 over an 8 hour period?
No, I think what the OP sais is that he will gift a game to the first 4 people who guess one of the 8 countries.

GabiMoro: Russia.

Soccorro: Look at the ops post. Turkey is totally valid.
avatar
awalterj: OP said "partially European", that's technically correct as a whopping 3% of Turkey is geographically in Europe... 97% of the country is not in Europe so take your pick. It's not rocket science. Geography is a deciding factor because otherwise, let's count Australia and New Zealand to Europe as well, right.
If you wanted to build a case around culture being a deciding factor and say Turkey is part of Europe because Istanbul and larger cities look European, one could call that soft bigotry of lower expectations because Turkey and its 70-80% Turkish citizens have a uniquely Turkish culture of their own, and traditional Turkish culture is much closer to that of the other Turkic countries than to any European country. There's people who seriously claim that saying Turkey is not part of Europe is "racist and demeaning" (no joke). I would retort that this kind of sentiment -verbalized or not- is a perfect example of the aforementioned soft bigotry of lower expectations.
All these attempts to count Turkey to Europe don't seem quite rational, I can see there is a political agenda behind it for some (to make Turkey join the EU) but if we're talking geography and culture and keep it real, Turkey is clearly neither in Europe nor European. Even if there has been considerable Westernization in terms of clothing, architecture, infrastructure etc, this doesn't overpower the fact that Turkey has maintained its own traditional culture. Same as Japan, you couldn't go around and claim that Japan belongs to Europe because the country has been westernized in many aspects from the Meiji period onward and most everyone wears Western clothes.

Soccorro: Never mind, im not going to turn this thread into a battlefield. I very well know what youre up to.
avatar
awalterj: If you think I'm up to something, be fair and spill it out or let it go.
Go tell the OP i bet he cares! Since that country is partially european, its valid. Now stop spamming the ga, please. Im just playing by the OP's rules. Other than you, im not trying to make a political statement.

Yes, it's like that. The first person to get 4 countries right wins. (However, you need only 6 hours, not 8, to make 4 guesses ;).
So, yes don't look at guesses from others. Even if they picked a right country, you can pick it too.

Sorry, no. Only 1 winner who guesses 4 countries.

^ This.
I'm not talking about any cultural or political aspects, only geography. If even a small part of the country lies in geographical Europe, it counts for the purpose of this GA. Period.

2nd guess (2 hours later): Sweden
Russia
OK, I'll start giving hints to eliminate more countries.

Hint 2: I'm originally from Syria and went to primary school there. However, we used to visit my mother's family in Poland for the holidays. Usually by plane, but we went by land 2 times visiting a few countries along the way. One time it took us 7 days, so we might or might have not taken the shortest route.
I am not in, but I thought this video was interesting: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3uBcq1x7P34
Ukraine
Turkey.

Then I misunderstood. My third guess will be Malta.

First guess was Greece. Second guess is Austria.
Where would a Syrian-Polish-Irish go for vacations? 33 different countries!!!! That's an incredible feat!

I'd like to be in for Treasure. My guess is Finland.
Was about to say Faroe Islands, until I read your fine print which excludes it.

I'll accept that and say my guess is "Finland".

P.S. I still want to recommend Faroe Islands for the solar eclipse though. On 20. march :)
I never condemn copies that are good copies. And this giveaway is a good and interesting copy. :)
Country1
Serbia

Question if I may, do you consider Great Britain as one country or each part of it individually.
