So I decided to shamelessly steal Phc7006's giveaway formula and have a guessing giveaway of my own. You won't be guessing games though.
I was hoping to visit all of the European (or partially European) countries(*) by my 30th birthday. Unfortunately, I turned 30 last year with still 10 countries left to visit. I have since visited 2 of them: Andorra and Norway. This left only 8 countries on my list.
Your job is to guess 4 of the 8 European countries that I still haven't visited. You may guess 1 country at a time, and leave at least 2̶ ̶h̶r̶s̶ 1 hour between each post.
Clarification: The winner is one person, who guesses 4 of the 8 countries.
The reward is any GOG game (capped at 10$; sorry, I can't get anything more expensive at the moment) that is either:
_Created by a European developer.
OR
_Takes place in Europe.
I hear that Teenagent is a good choice... (Only few days ago this would have been a sarcastic remark. Now I really mean it. It's a good game, except that it is free already.)
If you don't want any game but would like to guess anyway, go ahead and enter. In this case should you win, you could either:
_Nominate any other participant to receive the game (Clarification: you have to win yourself first by making 4 right guesses).
_Ask me to choose randomly between those who were closest to getting the correct answers.
Rules:
_Positive rep.
_I reserve the right to disallow any entry (I highly doubt I'll do it, but I want to ensure no scammers, cheaters... etc take part).
(*) The fine print:
Well I guess I have to define properly what a (partially) European country is, so:
_Cyprus is NOT in Europe. It's closest to Asian part of Turkey and Syria (I've visited Cyprus anyway, so it's a moot point). Malta on the other hand is closest to Italy, so it counts as European.
_Turkey is obviously partially European. As is Russia.
_The eastern Europe boundaries is where it gets tricky. I use the ones I was taught as a kid: Don River, Kuma Manych Depression, Caspian "Sea", Volga River up to Samara bend, cut to Perm then Ural mountains.
(Now for some reason, some people feel strongly about this and I've heard all sorts of arguments on why their definition, and I've heard of at least 9 different ones, is the one true correct border definition. So, please for the sake of this giveaway, let's just go with the above...)
This means that Georgia, Azerbeijan, Armenia and Kazakhstan are not in Europe.
_Only sovereign countries are included. Dependencies, autonomous regions... etc such as Gibraltar or Faroe Islands do not count.
_Only fully recognized countries are included. So Kosovo is not. I'm not trying to make a political statement here, but regardless of my own feelings about it, the fact remains that still lots of countries do not recognize it as independent. Again, I know some feel strongly about it, but for the purpose of this GA I have to exlude it.
I'll start with Hint 0 and 1 and will be dropping a few hints every now and then.
Hints so far:
Hint 0: Two countries were already given in the description. Read carefully.
Hint 1: My listed location "Ireland" is correct.
Hint 2: I'm originally from Syria and went to primary school there. However, we used to visit my mother's family in Poland for the holidays. Usually by plane, but we went by land 2 times visiting a few countries along the way. One time it took us 7 days, so we might or might have not taken the shortest route.
Hint 3: I went to kindergarten in Kharkov. As a kid, I also remember playing arcade games at the Belorussky Rail Station while waiting for our train.
Hint 4: As a student I visited the city with the cemetery where among others, Stefan Banach was buried. More recently, I visited a city that was full of posters of Volat, a mascot of a recent sporting event. And one of the most beautiful old cities I've seen was in a state capital, that was also the European Capital of Culture for 2011.
Hint 5: I've seen the Nimis and Arx, had a great day at the Tivoli amusement park, been to the Giant's Causeway and visited Holy Peace (a quiet little town)
EDIT:
And one more thing: like in Phc7006's giveaway, please write your choices in bold. Makes it easier for me to spot them.
