Title: Rise of the Third Power
Genre: Action RPG
Some solid pixel art, but much like Octopath Traveller, all those anachronistic modern shader effects on top just kill the appeal for me.
Look interesting ^^
On other hand,GOG can you write more information than the Title and Genre, please?

gog2002x: I think only the Original version of Ara Fell was made with RPG Maker 2003 (...)

UCrest: Forgive my ignorance. But as far as I remember I only tried the Ara Fell Demo and it is true that the graphic engine used was RPG Maker 2000 or 2003. What I never got to see was the full version in RPG Maker. Do you know if the development team released the full version in RPG Maker or was it only the DEMO? Thanks, @gog2002x!

gog2002x: Here's another bonus, I've not had a single crash in the Enhanced Edition (Win7 64-bit, can't speak for Win10) and gameplay has been very smooth. They seemed to have taken exceptional care in making things work, gameplay and story.

UCrest: I'm playing it on Windows 10 x64 and I haven't had any problems. The game runs smoothly.
That's a good question, unfortunately I don't have a good answer since I wasn't really following the development of the game back then or now. I don't have Steam, but from reading some of the posts there, it would appear they may have released the Original there, then later released the Enhanced version.

I do know there are guides out there that are based solely on the Original from start (Prologue) to finish (Epilogue), so I imagine it must have been a complete game for some platforms. The guide I looked at was for a console (Xbox?). But Steam obviously would have been the PC version. :)

There are some posts out there where the developers explained that they faced some limitations using RPG Maker and were not happy about that. I'll see if I can find some of those articles, both on the full PC version (if any) and the developer comments on the engine.

Also, the developers seem like a nice bunch, so it may be possible to contact Stegosoft directly and ask. They may even have a way to get you a copy (if it exists) since EE is now their official version, who knows. Never hurts to try.

Here's a dev post that was from Steam. Also, going by plenty of user posts there, the full version made using rm2k3 was indeed released there.

I think it was the technical limitations and their new game Rise of the Third Power using Unity, that got them to decide porting Ara Fell from rm2k3 to Unity as well.

Steam post (July 5, 2019) from Ara Fell developer PixyFreakingStix on the Enhanced Edition.

Hope that helps. :)

Yea i kinda feel you on that. Even having like Arial font intead of whatever pixelated font sometimes furns me off. Especially if it's for damage numbers. But that's probably too nitpicky.

Ankther thing that super bothers me, although it's not an issue here, is when the art is pixels, but the animations are like flash animations.

Not too bothered by the font, at least it's low res. Any high res elements laid over low res art looks bad to me, I'm a firm believer of 'if you're going to do pixel art, commit to the resolution with all assets', that even includes rotational effects staying within the limitations.

This game would have looked infinitely better if they'd committed to a genuine, cohesive 32-bit aesthetic with era appropriate resolution/colour depth/complexity for all effects, make it look like it was a real PS1/Saturn title.

Great contribution :) Thank you very much for the information. You are very kind. As for the original full version made with RPG Maker 2003 it would be a fortune to be able to play it nowadays. On some backup DVD I have the Ara Fell DEMO but I would love to have the full original version to play it as well. It would be a good idea to include it here on GOG as part of the game in the Extras (Game goodies) section. Again thanks for the information and the patience to dig or search for information on the topic.

Best regards!

You're welcome. :)

I too hope they will include the Original as part of an Extra. It's been done for other games and the developers for this game are nice, so anything is possible.

Maybe start a wishlist for it just in case? Or, you could post a new thread on the Ara Fell forum page and maybe the devs will pick up on it.

Also, given that they don't charge a lot for their games, I can see that it may be a real possibility as a free add-on.
