Hello!

I have a game I want the german-language patch for. I know that patch exists based on other forum activity, but I am not sure how to get it.

Basically I have Book of Unwritten tales installed, but GOG doesn't see it is a GOG game... Now - I could manually link the .exe to GOG and claim the game as owned, but I am not sure what I can do to get this patch. My worry is that I need to buy the game via GOG or find the patch elsewhere (which would be more sketch than GOG ofc) so I thought I would just ask here

Thanks for any help!

If you want service for a game from GOG, you need to purchase the game from GOG.
If you want an unofficial language patch for a game, purchasing it on GOG won't help you because anything unofficial will not be provided by GOG.
This thread and the link to a spreadsheet contained within (2nd post I believe) might be of interest:

GOG does provide fan-made localizations, when the mood strikes them.

Hi.

How exactly did you install The Book of Unwritten Tales? Steam? Retail? I am asking because the game was developed by a German company, so it should have German language support out of the box.

As for adding the game on GOG Galaxy, it will not do you any good; you won't get any access to GOG's version without paying for it.

Ice_Mage: GOG does provide fan-made localizations, when the mood strikes them.
Or the developer adds them on their own accord, like it's the case for The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos for instance, which, since its release back in December last year has received unofficial German, Italian, Russian and Spanish localisations.

As Gragar has already mentioned: German should be the default language of that game. No patch needed.

Unfortunately it's not always that easy. It's not uncommon for German games to have separate publishing agreements for their "home turf" on the one hand and the international version(s) on the other. This can lead to GOG getting a quick and easy deal with the international publisher but hitting a wall with the German publisher.

I think Daedalic games are quite notorious for this and will often launch without a German version despite Daedalic being a German company.
In this case GOG actually has german versions of the games. A german standalone installer for part 1 and a multi language installer for part 2.

But as others have stated: In order to be eligible to use any of them, the game must have been bought here.
Adding it to Galaxy from an external source won't do any good.

All things I'm aware of, but:

1) the OP is from Germany.
2) the game he bought is not the GOG version (I can only assume: a key-reseller version).
3) if he had bought the GOG version, he would face no problem, since the GOG version is in German.
4) if he had bought the Steam version, he would face no problem, since that version also is in German.

If the OP bought the game through some key-reseller, just because it was much cheaper that way, and he (only) got an international version, that is lacking the original German language,...then that's his problem.
