is the cat in charge of the newsletter?

All this, including hidden discounts, could be perfectly sent out through the GOG's internal messaging system, which is already available.
There is simply no task to make the service better and more convenient (sorting by price, by size of discount, specific description of supported multiplayer modes, convenient and quick feed of changes (game added / game updated / sale started and will last X, etc.)). The task of a marketer is to subscribe as many people as possible to the next unnecessary mailing list.
Such an inconvenient home page with a clumsy and very limited news carousel at the bottom was probably done just like this with the expectation "Now we will make it so inconvenient so that as many users as possible begin to subscribe to spam-mailings about releases and so on."

It's good that there is such an opportunity. It's bad that they try to shove her down the throat even for those who don't need it. Moreover, when there is already a ready-made system for such cases.

Except I'm subscribed and I never get them so how about fixing the system and then promote it.

And no, the support did not help me.

Same here, though I have yet to hear from support (I've just written to them).

All very compelling. My counterargument:

I don't want to.

> 1) You’ll receive great exclusive offers
Tried it. Offers that are marginally better than on website, on stuff I don't want or already have. I estimate the chance that such offer would match something I'm willing to buy, at the time I'm willing to buy it, as "very low".

> 2) You’ll get notifications about hot deals and giveaways

I'm used to checking gog site several times a day, when I'm bored at work. It might be good alternative for some. I would prefer if the news were given more prominent position on-site, and would not take several seconds to load, as the very last thing that loads (maybe tied with user menu).

> 5) It’s simply fun!
No comment, this is just a marketing fluff. Being simple is not in itself reason to subscribe - if it's useless, no amount of simple will make it useful.

I keep the subscription mostly out of morbid curiosity if it ever starts being useful. As far as spam goes, this is low frequency and hitting delete is not that much work (plus it's at least on topic that interests me and something I inflicted on myself willingly).

Sorry but the newsletter is pretty much pointless. I don't receive the newsletter until several hours, maybe even a day, after the sale is released. For example, new releases are sometimes at 8am, mon/wed/fri sales come out at 9am. I get the newsletter at maybe 3pm average. I get "stuff on your wishlist is now on sale" later than that. I've just made it a habit to check here every morning because your newsletter is irrelevant.

Maybe focus on improving your search sub categories. Release trailers are all unlisted which reduces how much exposure you have, and they don't even have a link in the description to the gog store page for the game in the trailer. Make soundtracks purchasable without buying the base game. Tell devs you want their soundtracks and demos on the store, I mean, do you really want us to go to steam to get all this stuff? For example, Synergia, just released, has a demo and it's pretty good soundtrack on steam. Why isn't it here?

Are you me?

(Releasing Skyrim Special Edition would be even better)

yes, but from the future.

i would be happy with either edition.
Pretty certain I've been subscribed since I signed up to the sight(aprox 7 years) and like others have never received any newsletter or even notification beyond items on your wishlist are now on sale.

So better option to check the sight daily, especially since the introduction of the 'wheel of news' which can see thing disappear quite quickly with a heavy bunch of new releases/coming soon etc.

I emphatically disagree with the fun part completing the find the whatever and then having to complete a bloody captcha to find out what it is kills any type of fun.
Why can't you guys just write a normal blog? Wouldn't that be MUCH more simple?
Publish it on blog.gog.com like normal people.

You're welcome. I do moar marketing for you for free than the people working there.
