Tekkaman-James: I'm sure the game, much like the movie I mentioned, will venture into a more supernatural realm to keep the game scary, but that's fine by me when I know it's what I'm in store for.
Oh of course for the game I'd expect (and hope!) for nothing less! I'm going to have to check out that book though. A good mystery with plenty of odd circumstance, grounded firmly in historical fact might be just what I need. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Zeyes: No problem. :) Turns out I made a bit of a mistake, the two movies are on sale after all, just buried at the bottom of the staff picks section.

I do hope we get a few new items on sale, although I have the suspicion it'll be limited to new bundles...
Nothing to worry about. Through the magic of editing, the list is up to date again. ;)

I think the 12 hour deal thing tomorrow/later today will be the moment of truth.
If GOG presents new items, there will be at least some degree of overall energy to things.
But if not? What's left of the sale will be a rapidly deflating balloon.
Ooh, I think I ate too much!! Groan. (Shifts uncomfortably in his computer chair.)

So far in the sale I've held off, and only took a few nibbles, but this latest "All deals back up for grabs" just became too much. Lots of games I've been holding off buying, waiting for a deal, so I had to say to myself, "Well, do you want it or not?"

Sigh. I'm so weak. ;-) Even assuming they stay compatible with my OS, I'm pretty sure I now have games in my Library I will never get around to playing. I guess I've simply paid for the luxury of choice next time I want to play.
Thank you for all the work you're doing, Crow. All the more appreciated as you are not enjoying the sale.

A question: I have never played Heroes of Might & Magic - was thinking of splurging on one of them, while the sale is on, but it can be only one. From reviews I've read, it should be 2 or 3.

As you are an expert on just about all games, it seems to me, your opinion would be valuable. :-D

That was a serious remark, not sarcasm, I hasten to add. I am really impressed by the breadth and depth of your gaming knowledge and experience.

I should add that I have not played Baldur's Gate either. <hangs head>
I always tended to stick with Strategy / Sim games - Civ, Rise of Nations, EU etc.

But I thought it might be time to branch out..

I should clarify. I made out like a bandit with this sale. Between that, the Interplay sale and the Oddworld sale that came before, I'm up 89 games this month alone.
The sale has a great deal of fantastic values. It's just the format that gets to me. I don't do well when things are slow-paced, so a sale where there's no variation in time frames, just the 12 hour drip feed of titles, starts to feel like it doesn't have a spark to it.

In all honesty, these days, I'm far more on the side of acquisition rather than playing.
I appreciate the compliment, but all I've got is a smattering of info from this, that and the other.
There are undoubtedly far more knowledgeable people.
Perfect example - I've purchased the entirety of the Heroes of Might and Magic series, but still haven't gotten around to playing them.

Don't be too hard on yourself, people tend to find comfort zones and stick with them, including their hobbies.
So long as you have the interest to try new things, your horizon will gradually expand as you find more items that appeal to you despite being of different genres.
Wow, today's repeating sales are a bit disappointing. But thanks to everyone for their work in this thread!

First I must say the Heroes of Might & Magic series Are Strategies. Turn Based set in a fantasy settings (with spells and monsters and such), but definitely in the same grounds as most of those you've mentioned so it's not that much branching out ;)

I have played Heroes of Might & Magic 1 up to 5 (Didn't try any of the latter so far).
Amongst the fans, 3 is considered the best of the series. I concur as it does have the most content, especially in terms of community patches, including several whole expansions, and even a whole set of games - Heroes Chronicles - based upon its engine and success. And of course the new Enhanced Version presented by Ubisoft (which is not recommended) is deriving from this - It will definitely provide the most replayability of them all.
The thing is, 3 is very much building itself upon what 2 brought, which in turn builds itself upon 1 (which in turn builds itself upon the original Kings Bounty, but on a massively bigger scale in all terms).
This means you might enjoy 3 much less if you didn't try 2 before, and as an introduction to the series, I must recommend 2 or 1 instead of 3.
1 Is the easiest to get into, and can be virtually finished within about a month or so (there is more content obviously, but you won't be feeling that "I shouldn't be missing this out!" drive the content for 3 gives you). So if your time is limited, perhaps it would suit you to try 1 first.
2 is the most beautiful of them all - in terms of classic 2d drawing and animations (3 was the first that moved into the direction of 3D), and it certainly has quite an amazing medieval atmosphere to it. I may have not returned to it that much after going through 4 and 5, but it is definitely my favorite after 3 which is indeed the best.

So it all comes to this:
For an easy introduction and fairly short time span - 1 Is the best choice.
2 - If you want to get the best vibe and into beautiful hand drawn imagery, even if at times you find it a bit complex (until you get the hang of it).
If you want to get the most of your buck and the prestige of your colleagues - You Must Get 3.
But it comes at the price of a learning curve which is higher for those that haven't experienced with the previous titles, and such an abundance of content, much of it very much Game Changing, that you will have to delve into it for a quite while if you wish to receive the whole experience!

Hope it helps :)
Well https://www.gog.com/game/kholat is out (apparently 10 hours ago), for all interested parties. It has a 10% launch discount as on steam.
any new games discounted, outside of the new bundles?
It certainly doesn't appear so. Have we reached the end of the rainbow so early?

So it would seem, apart from the odd new bundle. As some folks are speculating, it appears GOG wanted to pip their competitors at the post by getting all the deals out first.
It would be nice to see some classic releases in the daily deals and/or bundles, that would freshen things up a bit.
Well it looks like Crow was right, the offers catalog is exhausted and we'll be getting repeats from now on. My dreams of different weekly 12 hour deals have been crushed along with those of purple unicorn rides.
My wallet is hopeful.

You're a sick man. I'm now going to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon.

Since the Steam Summer Sale starts tomorrow, they are holding the D&D bundle, Blackwell games, Skulls of Shogun, maybe Mutant Mudds and Shovel Knight and some others that were not discounted yet for the rest of the sale.
If I had to guess, we will probably see the D&D bundle tomorrow and a small number of new single deals added every day until the last 2 days Encore. Not to talk about more new bundles and new releases. GOG's tweet mentioned 700+ games and they already discounted 650+, there are still, at least, +- 50 to be discounted. And that picture...What is seen cannot be unseen... :'(

Edit: I was thinking about the Winter Sale tweet, so I corrected the values according to the Summer Sale tweet.
