crumb24: Are the EEs and SoD perfect? Absolutely not. But are they anywhere near as bad as everyone here makes them out to be? Not even close.
So other people are not allowed to have their opinion, but yours is absolute. Is that it? If so many people call it crap, then there must be something to it. Personally, I wanted to like... no love this new enhanced edition, and you may believe that or not, it makes no difference to me, but what Beamdog have done to it -- and the heinous behaviour since -- has soured not just me, but a GREAT many of the core BG fans. That is a massive marketing faux pas in itself, never mind the actual quality of the product -- that could be fixed with the right attitude. I don't see it happening, because one thing Beamdog have shown is that they are incapable of self criticism, the cornerstone of improvement.

You want to quote the part where I said other people are not allowed to have a different opinion. You're the one who called me a "sycophant" for having a different opinion. I just wish both sides of the argument were being voiced, that's my point. And I admitted I'm biased because I want more content made for these games.

I didn't call you personally a sycophant, and I certainly didn't say it because of having a different opinion. The sycophants, all of them, are just toadies to Beamdog, nothing more, nothing less. This isn't about wanting more content, this is about sucking up to an under par company and product. Everybody wants more content; everybody wants better content. Only the sycophants, all of them, are willing to praise anything that Beamdog does, regardless of how underhand and/or crappy it is.

crumb24: Are the EEs and SoD perfect? Absolutely not. But are they anywhere near as bad as everyone here makes them out to be? Not even close. For the most part, I like the added content, even if its not as good as the original two games. Well, I like SoD better than ToB overall, although they both have some similar problems (mainly forcing you down a certain path.) To me it seems half the people who complain about the EEs haven't even tried them and wear that as some sort of badge of honor. I realize that's not the case with you, Hickory, but with many it seems to be. You would get a more balanced take on it from me if everyone here wasn't all "OMG, this is the worst ever!" type posts. I don't like that so many people are probably never going to even try the EEs/SoD because of the all the negativity on this board. I also want more content for the series from Beamdog, which is part of why I defend these games too.
I don't know how you concluded that people who complain about EE haven't tried it. I definitely did gave it a fair shot and just found it incredibly bad. Not to mention that I was stupid enough to pay the full prices (it was a birthday gift for myself; what an utter disappointment)

While you find it surprising that so many people are so negative about EE, for me it is the opposite. I am surprised that there are so many people (not on this board admittedly) who claim that EE are amazing and are willing to defend it to the bitter end.
Who says the bugs are fixed in EE editions? I am playing the Steam version of BG1:EE and the amount of bugs are unbelievable. I played over 40 hours now. They changed lots of things from the original Baldur's gate and it doesnt look good. The journal is horrible, nothing updates at it should. I am taking my own notes for that reason because i cant click most of the quests. You finish a quest but it doesnt show as finished.

I played original BG1 million times and never had such problems.

Here my good friend! https://plus.google.com/114281907538310728678

The "maker" of the enhanced edition, as the title says! That thing would certainly be thrilled to answer your questions, feedback, thanksgiving and love! It "fixed" the "problematic" originals for us and made us the wonderful EEs! <3 *hug* *kiss* <3

I feel your pain. I remember the countdown on the main site and the announcement of Enhanced Edition. It was a glorious day for Baldur's Gate fans, but ever since with each pieces of new information and screenshots I began to feel that something was wrong with this endeavour. By the time it was finally released I didn't want to play it at all, but I tried nonetheless. To this day I'm so sad that my favourite game got such a horrible treatment and it irks me whenever I see an article, or a video mentioning Baldur's Gate (in general) and it has screenshots, or footage of BG:EE instead of the original.

Beamdud should hire Trigglypuff to put trigger warnings on their crappy games.

How do you defend the gigantic plot-holes in SoD, then?

Lebesgue: I still can't believe this crap that Beamdog pulled. I see people asking for the original versions both here and at the ID forum and some end up buying the crappy EE versions to play the originals at twice the price and supporting a company which should not be allowed to touch any more classics...
avatar
waltc: The BG and BGII EE versions are actually approaching excellent, imo. The bugs that plagued the initial EE versions have been 98% eliminated--or so I hear, because I didn't buy the EE versions until just recently, so I have no first-hand experience with the early versions. I was surprised by how nice the EE versions, are at present, tell the truth--quite a contrast, really, to the negative chatter that surrounds them. And they are still being developed and improved...! I'm completely happy with them.

I had owned the originals for years, of course, and had modded them to the hilt with TuTu, etc.--and it was great to discover I could also mod the EE versions, using the same mods! I don't see much of any reason to object to anything GOG has done so far--I mean, you have to be very new to computer gaming if you haven't already purchased the original BG/BGII--and years ago, too, imo.
Not everyone keeps every case of every game they have ever purchased in their entire lives forever. Some things, classics especially, need to be re-acquired later on down the line. Plenty of GOG's customers are picking up convenient, compatible versions of classic games they loved previously for just that reason. Requiring us to buy utterly unreliable remakes just to access said games is absurd.

And hell, plenty of others just never got around to playing these games in the first place. Doesn't mean they're "new" to PC gaming.

Beam Bard needs a trigger warning tattooed on her forehead. lol
Damn, never thought they'd do something like this. So does Beamdog now have the rights for this, or why can they be bundled like that?

Also think it's a shit move. I mean, I got the originals already, but for people who only want to get those...

And it was also done with no announcement or anything, right? Meh.

Beamdog has the support of Wizards of the Coast, which has also fallen under the spell of SJW fanaticism.
