Not sure why you think you got screwed?

The people coming later got screwed. They don't get the original games, and will have to pay double to get them.

If there is a Hell, I hope there is a specially hot spot for Beamdog.

Lebesgue: I still can't believe this crap that Beamdog pulled. I see people asking for the original versions both here and at the ID forum and some end up buying the crappy EE versions to play the originals at twice the price and supporting a company which should not be allowed to touch any more classics...
The BG and BGII EE versions are actually approaching excellent, imo. The bugs that plagued the initial EE versions have been 98% eliminated--or so I hear, because I didn't buy the EE versions until just recently, so I have no first-hand experience with the early versions. I was surprised by how nice the EE versions, are at present, tell the truth--quite a contrast, really, to the negative chatter that surrounds them. And they are still being developed and improved...! I'm completely happy with them.

I had owned the originals for years, of course, and had modded them to the hilt with TuTu, etc.--and it was great to discover I could also mod the EE versions, using the same mods! I don't see much of any reason to object to anything GOG has done so far--I mean, you have to be very new to computer gaming if you haven't already purchased the original BG/BGII--and years ago, too, imo.

Wow, looks like they kicked Amber Scott upstairs.

Methinks it might slowly be sinking in that the only real problem they have is themselves.

If you distinguish what was broken from what was butchered, I suppose it's possible that he's right.

Yep, they "fixed" a lot of stuff, most of which, however, wasn't broken in the first place.

Now, with default settings, the game looks like some cheap mobile phone cartoon version of itself, like this user found out. He thought he had downloaded the wrong version or that something was wrong with the update, but unfortunately for him that was the actual game :)
A lot of the bugs have been fixed from 2.0

The BG fans here are hard to please. I remember when it was 1.3 or earlier, people saying "Oh don't buy the EEs, the content is minimal and it plays the same as the TuTu mod!" Then when they actually DO make major changes, its "Oh, don't buy the EEs, how dare they change things in this classic game! My childhood is now ruined!" And most of the new features can be turned off in the menus too.

That is because they changed the stuff that worked really well, and replaced it with crap. The new character models, for example. The characters looks like they have been copied and pasted in from Ultima 8 now.

And the enhanced sycophants are eager to fawn all over a crappy product.

Are the EEs and SoD perfect? Absolutely not. But are they anywhere near as bad as everyone here makes them out to be? Not even close. For the most part, I like the added content, even if its not as good as the original two games. Well, I like SoD better than ToB overall, although they both have some similar problems (mainly forcing you down a certain path.) To me it seems half the people who complain about the EEs haven't even tried them and wear that as some sort of badge of honor. I realize that's not the case with you, Hickory, but with many it seems to be. You would get a more balanced take on it from me if everyone here wasn't all "OMG, this is the worst ever!" type posts. I don't like that so many people are probably never going to even try the EEs/SoD because of the all the negativity on this board. I also want more content for the series from Beamdog, which is part of why I defend these games too.

I was poking around their forum yesterday, one of their own supporters points out that it was a pretty stupid mistake to release a new UI at the same time that they released SOD. Ya think? :p

If you convince Amber to sing something for me through Skype (beambard: "I love to sing"), i am buying you a free game of your choice (not over 20 euros).
