I spent many hours playing the King's Quest series. King's Quest 4 and 6 were my favorites. Both had great looking locations and they weren't overly difficult to solve. Kings Quest 5 looked great as well, but I felt the voice acting was a little sub par. They learned their lesson from this in 6. King's Quest 6 had some really unique locations that really made you want to keep... full review playing to see it all. One thing about these games is they are great for all ages, both young and old could enjoy them.
The interface for 5 and 6 is very easy, it basically has all the senses, just choose one, point and click. Personally, there's something to be said for having to figure out what to type in, but I'm old school that way. ;)
Say what you will about the King's Quest series, compare it to other similar games, but King's Quest started it all. Without King's Quest, all the other games like it, may never have been.
This is well worth the price. I bought these NEW and they were worth it then. When you look at all the 3D shooters out there, arcade style games etc. This is a refreshing difference. You can relax and play this at your own pace.
Finally!!! The best adventure game ever on GOG!!!!

But let's start with King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella, which picks up directly after the third one, even interlacing their respective end/intro sequences. King Graham of Daventry, protagonist in the first and second entry, gets struck by a mysterious illness upon the return of his kidnapped son. Suddenly, and without warning he falls to the floor. As all hope seems lost, his daughter Rosella is visited by a fairy, who tells her of a mysterios fruit who might save her father. Rosella travels to the faraway land of Tamir in search of the fruit, and encounters many dangers, puzzles and weird characters on her journeys.
King's Quest IV was the last in the series which used the typing interface, and the first to have a female protagonist. It contains great puzzles and a day/night cycle which was a big thing at the time. It was highly successful, and paved the way for:
King's Quest V: Absense makes the heart go yonder (who comes up with these titles?) Again, we're back in the shoes of King Graham (KQI+II), now fully recovered after being saved by his daughter.
He returns after a walk in the forest to find his entire castle gone, swept away by an evil wzard. An eyewitness to the ordeal, Cedric the Owl, takes Graham to the land of Serenia, and here they cross deserts, oceans and mountains in search of Grahams family.
This was the first Kings Quest to use Sierra's new icon-based interface and beautiful VGA 256 color. The art is fantastic and the puzzles are very hard but clever at the same time. However, there are a couple of occations were you can get irreversibly stuck. This game is a classic and a true gem from the Golden Age of Adventuring, but it doesn't even come close to the brilliance that is:
King's Quest VI: Heir today, Gone tomorrow (again, what's with the titles?!?) is an adventuregame so amazing, so well-written, so artfully designed, so masterfully crafted it still holds to this day! It's story, characters, graphics, score.... every little piece of the production has perfection written all over it!
The story tells of King Graham's son Alexander, who travels to the Land of the Green Isles in search of his love, princess Cassima. As simple a premise as it may seem, the plot quickly becomes intricate and clever, weaving mythology and fairytales into a tale of betrayal and love. Beauty and the Beast living in the same Kingdom as the Minotaur and Hades to name a few.
Designer Roberta Williams teamed up with co-designer Jane Jensen (Gabriel Knight) on this one and it shows! Their visioned combined has created a masterpiece of its time, and a classic for the ages!
For me, it is by far the very best adventure game ever released!!!
This package is GOG's most important adventuregame release, and a brilliant, if not perfect opportunity to experience why this genre dominated for so long.

The King's Quest series often gets a bad rap for being "typical" or "plain" when compared to the more zany Lucasarts adventure titles, or even Sierra's own Space Quest or Leisure Suit Larry games. True fans of the series know this not to be true however, as King's Quest, especially in these later entires, can be so imaginative and unique compared to other adventure... full review titles. They are a mix of classic knights and dragons, the purest form of fantasy and the most zany madcap characters all in one amazing adventure.
King's Quest VI is the game that got me into PC gaming. I was a Nintendo/Super Nintendo fan like most kids until my mother had me play KQ6 and Alexander's adventure in the mysterious "Land of the Green Isles" took me over completely. Here was a story with great dialogue, perilous adventure and often great maturity! This was a game for an adult, not a Saturday morning kid's program! My love for PC gaming and adventure games was forged and has still never died. As you bounce from island to island, meeting all kinds of unique characters and stunningly creative locales, I am sure you will feel the same.
King's Quest IV and V I played later, and while IV might be a bit old in the tooth for some gamers KQ5 holds up very well even today with talkie effects, great artistry and classic gameplay. Even if you look at this as $5 a piece for KQ5 and 6 it is worth every penny, so click the buy button! Grab these classics and enjoy them all over again or for the very first time. If they are an introduction then oh I envy you, I wish so much I could go back and be introduced to King's Quest all over again.
