The country remains in a state of shock following the assassination of President Sheridan. You wake up, wounded and with amnesia, on a deserted beach on the east coast. The only clues as to your identity are a tattoo of the number XIII near your collarbone and a locker key. Even though your memory is failing, you discover that you have the reflexes of a highly trained professional fighter. You set off in search of your past, discovering that you played a role in the murder of the President of the United States of America, and revealing the most astounding conspiracy ever hatched in the country's history.

So now that the game has been reworked, it's much more playable. Was able to complete the game with only a few minor bugs, and I enjoyed it. It could have recieved a lot more love, but it is what it is. For sale under $4 on GOG it was worth a playthrough if you enjoyed the original.
I am having a blast running through this again!
There are some weird bugs (rarely), but overall this game is a great throwback to how things should be.
Guns, hot chicks, and comic-style action.
I picked it up for $4, but now it's $3 on mega-sale. Do yourself a favor and get it!
But worth to play it at least once. The Cel Shading / Comic Style and the James Bond alike theme was one of the main reasons for buying it. At the beginning the game remined me a bit of the "Golgo 13" Anime. That is a good thing.
Only some minor bugs and glitches happend in my playtrough.
two times I had to restart a checkpoint, because XIII got stuck inside the level geometry.
The Story is not the big deal. It is like from a 80's B Action movie, but I like it. It was interesting enough to keep me playing till the end. Sneaking mechanics are very basic but allright. But most times I just shot erveryone and proceeded to the next checkpoint. There are only few missions where you are not allowed to kill anyone. The ending is really disapointing. There is not much replay value, because missions are very linear.
Pro:
+ Gunplay and related animations are nice and feel allright. But dual wield pistols sometimes have animation issues. Weapons pack a punch.
+ You can whack people with chairs and brooms, very satisfying and fun, fits the comic style.
+ the grappling hook is a nice touch for gameplay and feels unique.
+ checkpoints are fair
Cons:
- Enemy AI is lemming style. They take no cover or cant climb. They just run straight at you like cannon fodder. Even any old Sprite FPS AI is more challenging. 30 years since Doom and AI is in most games still a joke. That is simply boring and dissapointing.
- NPC Animations are like from a 1999 game.
- Level design is quit boring and uninspired.
- Boss fights are a joke. Whenever they reload they just stop moving and are easy targets and you just shoot till they die.
- Weapon & Item loadout is reset after every Level. This just makses no sense and is frustrating.
Conclusion:
This is somehow an very uninspired remake. It could have been much better, with more personality and one liners and comments of the XIII Guy and a more interactive and exciting game world.
But if it is on sale, I would recommend it to play trough it.
...we don't need a remake! We need a sequel!
Either way, remake or original, it's a game that everyone should play, so as to realize that “YES, not all FPS games are mindless shooters! Some of them have something more to offer…”!
You get to visit many locations and you will be feeling as a secret agent along the way. A fantastic, interesting and breathtaking story till the very end. Well, until we see a "XIII 2"!
Its a fun game. I played the original on the GameCube but never got that far. I enjoy it. Just wish there would be more of the comic book style elements during gameplay. Never read the original comic, which as a belgian comic book.
