I have this on steam before they took it off. I have to say it was the best money spent. The single has a good pull to it but MP was so fun. Though sadly you have to be a expert in knowing how to start 3rd party servers since Massive thought "eh, no one liked this game". even though reviews that I've seen all over praise it
I dont know a lot of game with such an exciting campagin and a realistic war story.
Its story its not taking sides, its not propaganda its a good criticism of war
An action packed tactical strategy game. At the begining of every mission you are given a group of units to accomplish your tasks, ranging from infantry to tanks, copters and artillery. Some have a limited number of abilities that you can use. You need to manage them in a way that will allow you to defeat you enemy. The is no base building or resource management. I cant say that the strategy aspect is anything incredible by todays standards, but it works.
What really makes this game stand out is the production values. The voice acting, sound, graphcis, large ammount of detail. The whole game is action packed. Now, this isnt exactly the best example of a strategy game, you wont be planning anything and more trying to think on your feet. However, the quality of the product is such that I cant fault it for being what it is. Its not the best of strategy games, but its a very good game.
If you want an action packed strategy experience with high production values, its a must. If you like building, planning and expanding, then this game is not about that.
I was a bit hesitant on buying this game as there seem to be alot of issues with this game launching/bugs/crashes/etc. So I took a chance and I'm glad I did.
This RTS game is fantastic, while I am a beginner for RTS, I enjoy the amount of units you can manage. The average of units controlled is about 1-8 so it really helps in micro-managing the units. The graphics and effects CONSIDERING this is a 10 year old game is by far fantastic (So much beautiful explosions, destruction XD). Especially when you factor in that this is less than a 6 GB download. While multiplayer is down, I'm a campaign player so I don't mind.
Campaign is so far, (only played first 3 missions) is good. Again, as an inexperienced RTS player, I was still able to complete all main/sec objs on normal difficulty.
I can't really find any issues or complaints with this game.
The only precaution I did before I started the game was to make sure my antivirus would ignore the WiC folder as I did read about issues of launching the game.
My PC specs is:
Windows 10 64-bit (latest update as of 12/15/2017)
i7-4790 CPU
16 GB RAM
EVGA GTX 1060 SC 6GB
Superb game and I honestly cannot recommend it enough!
I never got a chance to play online. However, the single-player alone is more than enough to buy at full price. The story is very believable. In 1989, the Soviet Union is facing collapse due to a poor economy. Rather than fizzle out like it did in our timeline, the Soviet Union in desperation decides to go on a war footing by invading Western Europe, and the United States.
Like I said the story is very believable and relies on real-world tactics and weaponry from the era so no goofy super weapons. You mainly play as the United States and NATO but thanks to the Soviet Assault expansion pack, you can play as the Soviets in six added story missions. What I love about the game was how it presented both sides. There really is no black and white and paints both sides of the conflict as human making the scenario all the more real. You really empathize with both sides.
All in all I fully recommend this game at full purchase. Gameplay wise it's very easy to learn and completely ditches base building. Instead you use points to call in units of support wether by CAS or artillery support.
