We Are The Dwarves is tactical, it's action, it's adventure! The game makes
show attention, tactics. flora and fauna - beauty. The interface is clear and simple.
After a couple of hours, i find myself fighting the ui and mechanics more then enemies. Stances only work on non-controlled dwarves, so aquiring new targets is a pain to click everyone manually. Very non-intuitive. I had to google how to actually repair armor/save the game, and as it seems you have to just click the actual word. I have played plenty of arpg's, rpg's and whatnot, but it didnt occur to me to click it, because the way the game manifests itself. Everything you find for example, you have to just stand on it for a second. Why would the save option be so different?
For aiming abilities, it's a pain to see it misses an enemy just because i did not aim it precisely. Sometimes its even only milimeters away, either due to height or distance, however it is very hard to tell if an ability will actually hit or miss. Normally enemies in scope will be heighlighted, but this is not an 100% reliable feature.
I found quickly that turning the camera is with your right mousebutton, but a simple option like this should be mentioned somewhere, at least in the 'controls' menu. I would redo that whole tutorial and put all the basics in one small mission. A 'follow character camera' option would be nice to, where it follows your turns etc.
A minimap options would have been appreciated. If you dont want to give away the map, maybe only a portion of what you already have discovered.
The challenge is there, i'll admit. Did i enjoy it? not very much.
To be honest, the whole world and theme seems a bit strange to me, and i think i have to adjust to that a bit. I'm a huge fantasy fan, but i had some difficulty immersing myself. For now, i have removed it from my pc, because what really gets me is the stiff combat. meh.
I will very likely try again sometime in the future. Updates have been non existent since 2017 sadly.
the game requires tactical thinking and patience. There are no obvious solutions here, for which many thanks to the developers, because you really enjoy the game not because you are a moron who pressed two buttons and passed the level, but was able to get out of a difficult situation (and this is almost every battle) using the game space completely. If for you to die three or more times per level is a disaster, then this is not a bad game, but you don’t know how to play, that’s all..
It's not a game, it's a scam, or at best a portfolio piece for the artists involved.
You see how awesome the art looks like? Well everything else is terrible, especially the game design and voice acting. Not to mention the bugs.
