living in the city doesn't leave alot of opportunites to go hunting but this game is a great way to fill the time inbetween hunting seasons. Plus it's really fun just to explore!
After 250 hours, I’ve finally decided to write a review.
First off, I want to say that I’m not a hunter in real life and have only played Call of the Wild before. I’m just a regular guy who enjoys relaxing games. I’ve spent most of my 250 hours on the first map alone.
What I don’t like:
Even though the game presents itself as "next-gen," keep in mind it’s still built on Unreal Engine, which means it can look either blurry or grainy (if you know, you know). If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, make sure to update the DLSS file to the latest version, it helps a lot.
GoG version tip:
If you're using the offline installer version, the game won’t save properly the first time you play (not sure if it’s the same with Galaxy). It creates two save folders: Account_0 and Account_0_G0G.
Fix: Start a new game, then exit to desktop. Launch the game and start a new game again—after that, it should save correctly.
And that’s pretty much it. Sure, there are a few bugs here and there, but nothing that ruined my enjoyment.
What I like:
The sound design is excellent.
The weapons feel great to use (again, I’m not a hunter, so this is from a casual player’s perspective).
The environments look fantastic.
The story and missions are genuinely interesting. It’s not AAA-level storytelling, but for a hunting
game, it’s surprisingly good. You can choose between story mode or just free hunting.
The herd management system is awesome, really well done.
No pay-to-win nonsense. The base game includes everything you need. DLCs are just optional add-ons or new maps.
I really like that you can change the game’s difficulty at any time depending on your mood.
That’s about it. I’ve probably missed some pros and cons, but overall, I can confidently recommend the game. It’s a great experience, definitely worth trying, especially if you have a bit of patience and enjoy getting immersed.
The game has its bugs, needs better optimization and still lacks more content, but these are all things that the developers said they are working on, in addition to having already announced new maps, weapons, animals, etc.
Even so, it is the best hunting simulator today, far superior to Call of the Wild, as long as you are aware that it is a very slow-paced game and in which you have to have a lot of patience: in a game session of 2 -3 hours it can happen that you only hunt a single animal or even none. The game is not a shooting gallery.
PS: And it is not true that the developers are not paying attention to platforms like GOG: they released the patch on steam first but it generated new bugs, so it will not be available on GOG until those new problems are solved. There is no need to lie and scare other users/players.
