Fantastic Metal Gear clone.
Unmetal is what a Metal Gear game would be if it was a parody on the style of "Airplane!" or "Hot Shots!". It takes the existent elements, characters and ideas from the original product and exaggerates them for comedic effect, but with all the humor elements removed it still works as a perfectly good example of the genre. This is a very important thing, because funny as the game is, it would probably be frustrating if it wasn't fun to play. Fortunately, it is. It takes the experience of early Metal Gear games (or Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel in the GBC) and makes a title that could easily be confused by a normal entry in the franchise it parodies, and I cannot give it better praise. This is a stealth game, so hiding and attacking from the shadows is the best approach, but the game doesn't force you to restart if you're discovered. You simply get less XP, which is a nice change of pace. In keeping with the spirit of the MG games, boss battles are brutal, but fair. Besides classic MG gameplay, you also have bits of graphic adventure, where you have to combine items and have meaningful dialogue choices. Some challenges are there for you to uncover as well. It's still a good thing that it's not content with just the limitations of the old consoles, though. Besides higher resolution graphics with a better palette, it also has full voice acting for every character (though only in English and Spanish, at least for now), and a larger array of abilities. All in all, it's a great package for any Metal Gear or stealth fan in general. In the interest of transparency, I have to mention I own this game on Steam.
