Pretty awful
This game is a busted mess that only accomodates certain builds. It's not good, and people only say they like it because some dumb racist on YouTube told them to.

9/10 would go underground again
This really takes me back to Fallout 1/2 and, to a lesser extent, Arcanum. Scavenging the trash bins of Core City for crafting materials evokes definite nostalgia. All in all, Underrail is a fantastic game that could be even better with increased production value - but it is already impressive as is. A few more sound effects, weapon classes (shotguns, especially) and a few more crafting options (for basic materials) would certainly not hurt. Also, an ingame map would be appreciated. Navigating the underground on foot, being forced to sketch a map on actual paper has its merits, though. The Oddity System, where the player levels up by finding curios and knickknacks in the underground and XP is not awarded by picking locks and killing rathounds is a very good idea and should be the new baseline for all RPG type games everywhere. It does lack the iconic atmosphere and general defined tone of Fallout, and some aspects may feel a bit thin, but it is solidly built (with a clever, functional interface) and absolutely massive in size.

Underdog in Underrail
Gonna be short but sweet - the former of which this game is not. Most RPG games today make you the centre of the universe, always there to the rescue of any and all, and that design choice does a really good job of making the world feel unbelievable and shallow. If you're into RPGs of this kind then I'd give this game a try for sure. You'll be immersed neck-deep in this dark, factioned and desperate underworld society. Also, if all of that isn't good enough for you, the combat, levelling & economy systems are all intricate and enjoyable with options for different levels of player skill.

Was on the fence at first ... HOWEVER
FYI – this is my review of the base game without the DLC. I was not expecting much from this game when I got it first. First 3 or 4 hours I didn’t even like that much as well. Almost put it down for good. But I am delighted I kept playing for a little longer. The game is one of those hidden gems! Trust me on this, give it a few hours and struggle through a bit and you will come to really enjoy both its depth and its difficulty. It does a lot of things very right. Most big games today would struggle to make such a good and rewarding gaming experience. Don’t buy this if you’re an FPS fan … (looking at you Call of Duty scrubs). You need to work a little for this game and it gives back tenfold.

Poor balance makes this game tedious
This game really is only like Fallout 1 and 2 in asthetics, only. The combat is wildly unbalanced, psionic characters are at a permanent disadvantage, and the game expects you to abuse line of sight and kite enemies into traps to progress after the first story quest. If you really like Fallout 1 and 2 this game somewhat scratches that itch, but don't expect the combat to be straight forward. Less than 2 hours in you will be facing common enemies that can stun you for the entire duration of combat until you're dead. It's a shame because the beginning of the game reminds me a lot of the Super Nintendo Shadowrun title, as well as Fallout 2, but the charm quickly wears off as the game boils down to dying and reloading until you get lucky rolls during combat.
