由Cavedog Entertainment首席设计师Chris Taylor主导开发，《横扫千军》是一款即时策略（RTS）游戏。本作最初于1997年9月30日发售，这款游戏同时也是有史以来第一款拥有3D单位与地形的即时策略游戏。游戏拥有两个扩展包：于1998年4月30日推出的《核心危机》，以及于两个月后的1998年6月30日推出的《战斗策略》。在《横扫千军》推出时，当时游戏的最低电脑配置要求还是奔腾100 MHz处理器以及16MB内存。当然那只是针对1997年的电脑规格的要求，现代的设备早已大大超出当时的推荐配置，但考虑到此版游戏使用了更新后的游戏引擎，我们推荐玩家使用达到至少1 GHz处理器以及512MB内存配置的设备来游玩。
在遥远的未来，一个被称为核心（Core，“集体意识库”的缩写）的中央化人类与人工智能组织统治者全宇宙。凭借核心超乎想象的科技与经济发展，人类已经定居银河系中的绝大多数星球，全宇宙的居民享受着持久的和平与繁荣。但是，一项允许人类意识转移到机器躯体内的革命性科技打破了原有的平衡，这种被称为“复刻”的手段理论上能够赋予人类永恒的生命。当核心宣布法令以“公共安全“为理由强制要求全人类进行“复刻”，由银河系边缘地带的殖民地（旋臂这个名字也来源于此）组成的叛军势力便揭竿而起，旋臂的成员们拒绝放弃自己的身体并加入核心的机器意识。双方展开了一场持续4000年的战争，旋臂方面使用量产型的克隆体来操作战争载具，而核心阵营则通过不断复制嵌入人类意识的微型芯片来操作己方阵营的机器。

Good Ideas Never Die...
Twenty three years later and Total Annihilation still resides on my hard drive. Sure...it's not the same computer, and I'm quite a bit older...but the magic which made TA such a great game is still there. Long let it continue...

One of the best strategies ever
It is just a masterwork from any perspective. I just want to add that there exists a remake created by a great team, for now it is still in the development stage and available for free. Try to search for "Beyond-All-Reason" you will be definitely satisfied.

Absolute classic RTS game
By default Ctrl+[1-9] to create control group. Alt+[1-9] to select it. What I found is you can press Enter type +switchalt to just press 1-9 to select a group. Game doesn't make autosaves, even after finishing campaign mission, so make sure to save often. ~ key to display units healt bars and control groups assigment. F2 to enter main menu. Help under main menu to display all the others keybinds.

The Greatest Game Invented
i have fond memories of countless hours spent with this glorious game. there are countless strategies for each of its 2 factions. this game had a great soundtrack great units and great memorable graphics. but the best part of the entire game have to be... the EXPLOSIONS!!!!! every time anything blows up the pieces from it fly away and those blow up too they even hurt things if only a little bit. i highly recommend this game to anyone and everyone. thank you
