Gameplay is clunky, lots of micromanagement and the animations are not very smooth
but
Instead of anime it's inspired by classic samurai films like "Throne of Blood" 'Tales Of The Taira Clan" and "The Seven Samurai" even one of the characters is dressed similar to Kikuchiyo from the Cover of the seven Samurai.

It's still an enjoyable play in 2021 if you can get past its hurdles and "quirks".
With seven simultaneously playable samurai, you get seven inventories, seven character sheets, seven skill trees, and a 5,040 lineup permutations to play with and it can be a slog to manage all of this, especially with the UI/UX of a 2001 game.
That said, if they ever make a modernized version of this game, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Hell, I bought this one in less time than that.
If you like diablo 2 then this game is for you. Tons of loot and inventory management. Great character customization and instead of 1 character you get 7. If you haven't played this then just buy it and give it a shot. One of my favorite diablo style games of all time and I'm glad that they have it here as I was starting to have issues with the disc versions.
Great Samurai/Ninja style Diablo clone.
I loved playing this one as a teen. Thank you for bringing back those wonderful memories!
Never used more than one character at a time in single Player mode because the squad command are confusing to me.
But I really enjoyed playing this (lone solo ninja) and even more playing it LAN with a friend ...
gog: you rock!!! thx
What can be better than Diablo in medieval Japan? Well, in fact this Japanese flavour is probably the only positive thing I can say about this game, alas.
The VERY tedious party management kills half of the fun right away. The party formations (that look like an interesting idea) work bad or don't work at all, and their management is also very tedious and counter-intuitive.
The rest is killed by the game action speed, you just can't feel the fighting as it feels in Diablo and other ARPGs, you almost never can even read the types and names of enemies not to mention their health bars. Everything is happened too fast, characters move very fast, the animations are jerking (and I use a very old 2-core CPU on WinXP machine). So the fighting brings no enjoy, and the items system doesn't add to it as well, the loot is scarce, weapons and other items are rather bland (except for their Japanese names and look).
So the gameplay is the constant fight against the interface and party management, interspersed with chaotic and hectic fights against unmemorable enemies.
Not the type of fun I personally waited from the game with such a good starting point as 'Diablo in medieval Japan', you know...
