A mix of sneaking and horror later on
I still visit Shalebridge Cradle in my nightmares sometimes. There is a reason why its on most people top5 horror levels of all time.

Awesome game and works great on W10
Glad I "ignored" the reviews saying it no longer works because of ladders and lockpicking. While it's true that it can be an issue on newer systems (nothing really to do with Windows 10 it seems) this apparently has been an issue for a long time and has nothing to do with the GoG (or Steam) versions. If you google the lock picking issue it's easy to find this for example: https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019302113-Thief-3-Deadly-Shadows-lockpicking-issue?product=gog Which links to a really old thread about the Sneaky Upgrade and it works perfectly. Been playing Thief DS without any issues by simply installing this before even playing for the first time, left it all on default settings. Now depending on your exact system you might need to do other things but it's all part of the linked forum post. There are even some pretty new discussions on there from 2022. As for the game itself: It's Thief! I can't fathom I hadn't seen that Thief DS was a thing. I played the original and Thief II extensively way back when, so very glad I can now play this one without a hitch and I don't even need a good system and spend lots of money like I would've back then. Works very nicely on this cheap, previous, previous gen business grade laptop that won't even be allowed to upgrade to Windows 11 w/ an Intel HD 520 integrated graphics chip.

consolitis, still wonderful
i confiscated my room mate's xbox to play this game. years later i own it on PC! ive played through most of the game with sneaky upgrade patch and ai upscale videos & textures on linux, in wine/proton. simply my favorite thief. garrett is still here, in his last throws. debatable as people love T1 & T2 more, but this one is always my idea of thief.

Good but not Great...
This game was made for consoles and it's not nearly as expansive as the first 2. The lore and story are decent and the game contains one of the best (scary) levels ever design. It's called "Robbing the Cradle" and do yourself a favour. Don't look up anything about it, don't watch any vids or how-tos. Buying the game is worth it for that level.

Brilliant, but needs the Sneaky Upgrade
This is a brilliant and worthy successor to the first two games, even though some elements are missed (e.g. Holy Water and Rope arrows, various potions, swimming). However, it can be a bit buggy - some of the locks won't work. So search for the free Sneaky Upgrade patch which smooths this out and adds in cosmetic elements to give it more of a feeling of the first two. That's not supported by GOG but it works fine.
