While faking insanity, Hamlet famously exclaims: "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." It was Shakespeare's critique of a world gone mad. The Witcher swallows this expression whole, instead of seeing it as a critique. In the Witcher, you're a Sephiroth-inspired antihero with white hair, black clothes, a scar, and a huge sword. You click click click your way through tedious fights in a world where most everyone is unlikeable. To keep players interested, you get regular chances to get down and dirty with as many animated girls as possible. You even get collectible trading cards (like Pokemon) for each one you bed. Then it's back to double-clicking through another fight, with little if any strategy. All narrated by Sephir... sorry.. Geralt's gravelly voice. The Witcher is fantasy for the George RR Martin generation. Nothing more, nothing less.

Only starting and its excellent, but, the inability to skip cut scenes is seriously starting to get on my nerves! I have watched the same ******* cut scene about 50 times. . .its the very first boss. Dev's for the love of all that is holy, give me a ******* skip option! Its great game though.

NOTE: This is rated 4 stars for one basic reason: the game keeps crashing. I have a newly built laptop running windows 7, and yet my computer claims that the launcher isn't compatible, so I don't really know what to do. So it lost a star for that. It also would have probably lost another star for some annoyances I have with the story, described later, but I haven't played much of it yet, so I'll keep it at 4. I'll be fair here - I've only played the first hour or so of the game. It was plenty fun- despite what I've heard about the Witcher it wasn't too difficult to figure everything out in terms of using potions and spells and such, and the combat was a good mix of twitch skills and tactics. Story was intriguing - even if the fact that the main guy has amnesia is sort of glossed over pretty quickly- honestly it seems like more of an excuse of not explaining who people are than a real element of the plot. Also the one female character I encountered has some serious "STAB ME IN MY BOOBS!" armor going on- which is fun, but not great for immersion.

Got curious because I saw people playing it in GoG Twitch, and always heard good things about the series. And so far I'm not disappointed at all. In overall, I'm still getting used to the game controls and mechanics - they're quite simple actually, played around 1hour until the beggining of the first chapter, and I liked the whole experience. Those are the most important things in a game for me, and probably I won't get bored. As for all the other things in the game such as the alchemy system where you can make potions from enemies drops and other items, and the main character skill tree, I must say I'm very impressed. And the story so far is very good as well. The only complaint that I have is related to the character animations in the cut-scenes, their expressions seems somewhat... robotic. Really, they act strange, like those puppets controlle by strings. And, not sure if it's the camera mode I selected, but controlling the it with the mouse is very problematic. Perhaps I should try using the other mode to control the camera - I guess there's a "fixed" mode for it. Despite those two problems I mentioned, I'm really looking forward to play this game until its end. Hopefully I'll be able to get rid of my bestial backlog and play it decently. =)
