I played the Witcher 3 first but I wanted more of the witcher franchise, so I started playing form the Witcher 1 to explore the lore form the very start how it all came to the being. Enjoying every bit of it. Much love to CDPR and the people behind this beloved franchise.

I have taken about a ten year break from any serious gaming. I recently picked up a new gaming laptp and started building a backlog of my favorite genre, RPG's. I bought the Witcher 3 a few months ago but when i went to play it i was really hesitant to just jump in and play the third game of a series that had gotten such great reviews. In addition, since i am ten years behind a ten year old game doesnt feel that bad to me. I got The Witcher EE and The Witcher 2 on sale for less than $5. I am only about 15 hours in but i am entirely happy with my decision to play through this one first. There is no hurry and its a great value. It took most of act 1 to hook me but now i am in. The combat is different but i have enjoyed it. There are plenty of different tools between signs, weapons, alchemy and fighting styles to approach hard problems from different angles. Anyhow, if you are torn about jumping right into Witcher 3 without playing the previous games, my choice was to give it 10 hours and i if didnt love it i would bail and play 2 or 3. Im in for the duration now. Im excited to get the whole experience.

There is a worthwhile, mature, and well-told story here, unfortunately marred by a game with notable quest and animation bugs, and I experienced more than a few crashes. The voice acting is all at an exactly middling level, which might have dragged down another RPG, but the tale being told is enthralling enough that the niceties of a truly good performance aren't too missed. The combat has its clunkinesses and movement can lean more toward lurching, but its design is still such that increasing difficulty is more about making the preparation and execution more cerebral rather than just more punishing. While the modding community may not have made as much content as say, Skyrim's, it's worth noting that there are solid additions to the game's mechanics and graphics out there. The only real gripe I have (apart from the crashes I mentioned) is that Geralt's journey is very solidly stuck in the male gaze when he encounters women. This man has a surprising amount of sex just by selecting two or three dialogue options expressing concern or empathy, and each encounter gets you a painting of the rendezvous added to your journal; this game has a fap folder in its journal, and it is entirely unnecessary and could be very troubling to some.
