Absolutely wonderful! Yes, it is wordy at times, but if you enjoy a great story and a long fantastic journey (between two worlds), then you will love this game.
*ProTip: Double click to run. <--Still not that fast, but it's better than walking. I didn't figure that out until halfway through the game.
I will be the first to admit that I never played this game back when it first came out. In fact, until I saw it GOG, it was never on my radar. Now, having just finished the game <10 minutes ago, I regret not having experienced it sooner. I loved the world (well, worlds) and the characters, as well as the epic scope of the story. Don't be like me, play this game now. The worst part of this game is that it ends.
Some things in this world get better with age. Cars, wine, women.... 'Kay, so maybe not women, but this game in many instances has aged like milk. The graphics look terrible, they're at a fixed rexolution, so they can only be stretched across your fancy new widescreen monitor if you want the picture to fit, and some of the puzzles are absolutely nonensical. With the fewest spoilers possible, there's a puzzle that goes something like:
Bread + Bird = Inflatable Duck
Inflatable duck + Clamp = Duck-activated clamp
Duck-clamp + subway rail = key
Now, if you can follow all of that, you must be genius, a god, or an idiot. But even if you can't, you will be sucked into the story in a way unparalleled even by todays standards. The narrative puts you right in the very uncomfortable shoes of April Ryan travelling between dimensions to rescue the fate of 2 worlds. If that's not good enough for you, wait until you come across some good old fashioned humor that you just can't find any more.
Common GOG! need this game now ported to OSX, played it like 5 years ago, and coudn't finish it, now i work in film production and have a MAC, and want to play this game!
Just replayed this game after 6 or 7 years, and must say that it is still one of the best, if not the best, adventure games ever released.
The story is fascinating with a few twists and turns that will surprise you. The world is filled with loads of characters that you grow to love and care about.
The graphics have aged, but some scenery remains beautiful to this day.
Some puzzles are ridiculously absurd and a guide will come in handy, although you will find some brilliant ones as well.
Overall fully recommended.
