Simply wonderful, yet not without bugs

If you're looking for a space opera experience, you're in the wrong neighboorhood. This is unfiltered Lem: here we consider the limits of human understanding, of human reason. What would really happen if we were stranded in another planet? How would we try to make out what is happening, what happened? How did we get there and how would we resolve conflict between our factions? Hardly the setting or plot for something as peple pleasing as Star Trek. This is what this game tries to portray. No easy task, yet a commendable one to embark in. There are considerations as to some bugs being found in game. I myself fell off into the void at some point, but nothing that a quick load woudln't fix. Really great experience. This is the Sci-Fi that matters.

Feels like 60's Communist Bloc Sci Fi

Yes, it really does capture the atmosphere of those old, vaguely subversive, science-fiction pieces, but without having aged badly over the decades. The world is alien, and beautiful. The logic behind the situation is good. There are no simple solutions, even once the problem becomes clear. This is a nuts-and-bolts retro-sci-fi walking sim and it hits the mark perfectly. Having said that, it's a walking sim. Resolutely so -no meaningless rubbish combat or traps here. However, unlike most games in the WS genre, it's not about exploring deep emotions, or some dreadful past misdeeds, but it requires thought and contemplation on the nature of life. Without a scientific mindeset, this game may leave you cold. With such a worldview, the game opens up vast questions and leaves you, the gamer to answer them. Not everything everywhere is for us.

Fair warning . . .

Gorgeous in every way - if a little repetitive - THE INVINCIBLE earns my respect for not simply shoehorning sci-fi concepts into an extraction looter-shooter. Unfortunately what ended up being made isn't all that great and suffers, like SCORN, from artistic expression in conflict with itself. The gameplay consists of not particularly complex button pushes/switches, driving sequences, the occasional use of tools requiring spatial attention and holding "WASD" to walk about the game areas along pre-determined paths. None of it is compelling beyond the truly excellent production design. Now here is the part I really do not enjoy saying but the bulk of the game is, in truth, talking. Then listening. Then talking. Then talking some more in timed dialogue choices : it's not so much the experience of playing a game as playing a book ; a nouveau "choose your own adventure" if you will. So it has great graphics : so what? Was voiced-over dialogue and pushing "W" to move forward the best way to live this adventure? There is more to it than that, of course, so perhaps I should say it's more like an interactive movie. Put another way : in the game you, the player, have a body inside a realized world : what then does THE INVINCIBLE do with this physicality - this _being_ - beyond the most trite, overused game mechanics? THE INVINCIBLE is a failure at both making a traditional (read : stimulating to the dopamine receptors) game but too as a way of advancing the state of the art. I do not enjoy writing all this about something made with such obvious love and reverence to the source material. I really don't. Let us hope these devs put their great talents to better use next time!

TRULY AMAZING!

I remember reading The Invincible as a kid. Now it was possible to walk around the world that not only resembles the one from the book but also expands it with so much details and explanations. I liked the slow pace of the game, no violence, lots of useful life hacks, and brutal truth of space exploration. This keeps reminding us we really have a perfect conditions here on Earth to live as a human species, that we don't fully realize and appreciate. This also brings back the question - how Stanisław LEM was able to invent all of this over 60 years ago?? BIG THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO GAME!! :-)
