A Snack, made up of different flavours.

I played through this in one sitting, and the while the gameplay loop is simple, it does not overstay it's welcome. The premise could have been expanded upon, and I would recommend you only buy this while it is on sale, otherwise 15 bucks is a bit much for so little to show. Itself the game looks really nice, the story is quite good and the whole game flows with each other. For a short break this if a great game to play, though it is good it ends as quickly as it started, as towards the end it has no more cards to play.

unique mood, weak gameplay

pretty art, cool music and very unique chill apocalypse vibes. slightly disappointing gameplay, still better than many modern AAAs. there's actually no train management, and it's absolutely not similar to FAR in any way. the DLC is even worse, it lacks the laidback fatalism of the main game and takes away the train ride completely.

Great game but falls short

I really liked TFS; it has quite a few flaws, but the core gameplay is good and the story, while a bit all over the place, entertaining. It's a five hour-long game; six if you're generous, but I do not feel it overstayed it's welcome. What I did not like is all the faffing about in the actual train, with the survivors. I liked it at first, but it got tedious due to the speed at which people got hungry/wounded. Ammunition can also become really scarce, which I guess is trying to be part of the game's charm, but it's not really survival nor roguelike so a little more ammo around would've only made it more fun. It's not survival, however, which I liked. If you die your autoload puts you a few rooms back so you can experiment around with clearing an area. I said the story is good and it is; sort of. Aliens have invaded again; OR HAVE THEY?! It can feel like there's twists every hour and a lot of things remain unexplained, even when exploring the world for bits of paper to read. What I like is that it raises questions, but in a conspiracy-kind of way. If you're gonna get it i suggest getting the DLC as well, which addresses a lot of of bad design choices and overall feels like a step up.

Interesting premise, buggy and flawed

The setting and the slow start of the game are great, but gamebreaking bugs spoil the enjoyment - the biggest problem is the "wind up punch" feature that works only about in one time in eight attempts - which is a problem in a fast paced combat with limited ammo.

A small, atmospheric train game

I really love the premise of this game; that you drive a prototype train on a mission to deliver important payloads in defense of the world against some kind of mysterious alien invasion. The game is superbly balanced. You are constantly desperate for ammo and supplies, and constantly low on health, but you are never overwhelmed by the challenge posed by the enemies. The train is forced to stop at various stations along the way, each with their own beauty and each presenting a little bit more of the story as you progress. The world in between the stations, while you're on the move, is breath-taking as well. The art, sound, and music go together perfectly to add to the "end-of-the-world" atmosphere. This game, however, focuses very heavily on it's narrative, which as others have said, feels disjointed or incomplete. There is a clear effort to tell a linear story, but it falls short because we have no investment in any of the characters, including our protagonist, and details about what is happening or what has happened in the past are *too* sparse, perhaps. That said, I think this game is worth playing for it's atmosphere, the train premise, and it's very comfortable length (~4-5 hours).
