It’s showing its age and still suffers from the trademark Bethesda bugs, but The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is a good enough excuse to warrant a return trip or serve as an entry point to this massive game.

Can't Actually Rollback Game Versions
Using the rollback instructions, GOG's only available version of the game is 1.6.659.0.8. I was led to believe, particularly given the NexusMods forum post (found at: https://www.nexusmods.com/news/14753), that I would be able to roll the game back to version 1.5.97.

No automatic update and mods: brilliant!
Yesterday I was able to prevent the latest Bethesda patch and it made me so happy! One thing I love of this game is how many things you can control, specially when using mods. Having Beth keep milking it even if they never bothered to fix it is so annoying, specially if it means imposing a non tested patch. I understand some rpg fans dislike Skyrim as it is quite different from the old school ones but in my opinion this game let you really role play as you go, it is up to the player to keep focus on what to do next and how. I like the open world style where you can use places and pieces of conversation to build up your plot, world and story. This is a game where the main story is more of an excuse to go around and discover way more things. I think people forgot the main point of it was the "open-world" concept. Some people are disturbed by the fact you can actually play this game even without following the main story, others, like me, instead love this aspect as it made it really open. Nowadays we use the expression "open-world" in a more narrow way, applying it to just the fact you do not need loading when changing scenario, or entering a building - well, most of the time. But originally it was more about not having rails, so trying to bring a bit of freedom and creativity into it. However, modders made a lot for it too, starting from creating fixes that the main company did not care to patch and providing ideas for additional contents that were lacking in the original, ideas on which Betshy capitalized after (see Heartfire dlc or creation club). Mods really add to the freedom and enhance the repeatability of this game, from better aesthetic to new content, there are options out there for every taste. With the gog version is enough to have a nexus account and a mods manager to customize your game as you wish. I am stating it as it was no evident to me in the beginning and I had to read the forum online to understand how to do it.

Just buy it
I doubt you don't know what this is, so I want review the game in more depth than the 5 stars. Yes, I have it on steam too, but having it with less bloat (Creation Club, Steam launcher, DRM) is a step towards even more stability, that is always awesome.

Best classic game to ever release since the tomb raider goty! Keep it coming GOG, I know you can do it! I’ve always had faith in you! Love this release!
